Hi I’m Rob,
I currently work as a hgv mechanic for a vehicle hire company, but i would like to get my hgv licence. Can anyone recommend a trainer in the West Yorkshire area? I would like to make the move from being a mechanic to being on the road as i really enjoy driving. I drive rigid trucks around the yard at the moment but not being able to road test them limits my experience. So can anyone suggest how i make this move to becoming a truck driver?
Thanks
You will need the following:
Medical (at any doctor)
Provisional CAT C licence
Theory tests (training recommended)
Driving assessment
Driver training and prac test.
Driver cpc - 35 hours if you have a current C1
Mods 2 and 4 if you don’t have a C1.
When choosing a trainer I suggest at least 2 assessments. DSA Accredited LGV training centres can be found here: dft.gov.uk/fyn/lgv.php
Avoid brokers. Always visit your prospective trainer and satisfy yourself as to their quality.
Any further questions, fire away. Pete
