Have had to read this three times. This is why Januz and Sergei are thriving in this industry. It’s for a month not life. Leaving at 4 would make your life a whole lot easier. perhaps it’s me.
So my contracted hours mean nothing then yes i know its for a month not life. But i was told on friday at 4 pm. As far as im aware. The law still states. Fair notice must be given in advamce. I do have a life and commitments away from work hence my 1045 2000 shift. Not 4am !!! I will try but cannot leave till 6 as. No truck available as night driver has it till at least then !! As i say if i can do the driving hours ok then i will be RICH but thats a big IF. been there done it got the tshirt years ago and got out for easier worklife. As for sergei and januz they can quite happily have it im not really bothered i suppose i can visit greggs again tho ita been a few years mmmmm

Am I missing something? They want you to start at 4…but no truck available?

Unless it’s actually in your contract, in black and white, the law has bugger all to do with it. However, you may well find another bit in your contract which says something to the tune of “You may be required to perform other duties as instructed by your line manager” or words to that effect. Most employment contracts do these days; it’s the catch-all to ensure that the management don’t get stuck with intransigent drivers.
My two cents; turn up on Monday at 4 am, do as much as can reasonably be expected to conform to the plan, then if it goes mammaries skywards it’s the planner’s fault not yours, and you stay on the moral high ground.
A good manager will work his men to their strenghts.
Thus,my tm knows not to give me anything with a stupid o clock start time…he even asks"is that a bit early for you"
i’ve got llangadog for 8,but he’s told me to ignore that,so i’ll be there about dinner.

And no doubt calling in at Martin’s in the lay-by to top up your strength before tipping!
Come on top, you want to start at 6 so you can cream the ot. I can see what you’re saying about notice, but that’s only valid for the first shift. Personally I think 4 is too late. When I used to do Bridgend on coltons, I used to leave at half 2, tipped, reloaded at princes Cardiff and back in the yard by 2 in the afternoon. Made my life easier going early
Don’t seem unreasonable to me. Are you telling the truth that they said a 4.00 am kick off when they had no truck ? Like others have said, I’d have been away before that.
Did i miss something in between this and the other thread, i thought the OP had agreed to a pay cut in order to fall below some threshold for housing costs.
I would go early. I think it would then be acheivable
as I recall, the brewery has a very good canteen so I would organize myself around their opening times
beware of the two weekly driving hours limit
remember the Pay/tax/subsistence incentives for early start and night rates
I would WRITE a note to the traffic clerk AND HIS BOSS saying you are prepared to do these start times for the good of the company but in future would they please give you adequate notice. i.e. claim brownie points

Still 15 minutes to nab a Gregg’s breakfast roll and coffee deal then…lovely.
