Maggie (Not Deutz)

 Maybe fella’s, but only for those who had vast wealth. She stuffed the transport industry…especially the drivers.

Very true indeed solly the scrapping of the National transport wages board in the mid 1980s(which many forget) and the resulting subsequent free market economy within the transport industry which as ever since been so excellently explained and exampled on many occasions within these forums numerous topics highlighting the poor pay, examples of bad employers ,many topics explaining how badly treated drivers are, massive expansion of agencies within the industry and workers rights for uk workers the third worst in the western world(yes hard to believe but statistics from the OECD).

^^^
I get the impression when discussing topics like this that a lot of people who comment have either very short, or selective memories, or they are too young to appreciate just what has happened since the Thatcher years, and rely on MSM propaganda to form opinions.

I’m not to young Solly. The first time I voted Harold Wilson was PM and you had to be 21 to vote. Thatcher and her cronies such as Tebbit did more damage to this country than any other politicians since WW2.
People will learn about the full extent of their deeds one of these days.

When Thatcher became P.M. this Country was in a sad and sorry state,in other words bankrupt. We were being held to ransom by various unelected oafs in the trade union movement.Google names like Red Robbo,Mick Mcgachy and quite a few others. The management was as is now an old boy network. There was very little investment or forward thinking and no inovation.

The economic figures and performance of the country haven’t exactly been perfect ever since Thatcherism became the order of uk politics and economic policy to date.

The fact is the NUM just like the rest of the union movement was also there just the same in 1972 the only difference then was that they were winning disputes and keeping wages in line with the cost of living and the country’s economic figures related to growth etc etc proved it.Unlike since 1979.

  And exactly what do you think the Tory party “Unions” were doing at the same time?

Google it. You may be surprised to learn they were supporting the policies, correction, they were instructing Thatcher et al through policies they wanted at that time, and to pave the way for what is happening now.

Anyway, the country has been “Bankrupt” for many, many, many decades, and it wasn’t the “Trades Unions” that were responsible.
Google that also.
Try the Bretton Woods treaty for a start, then work back over in time, until you reach the secret Jekyll Island/Federal Reserve conference. To the open-minded it’s instructional.

The United Kingdoms transport industrie was stuffed by Labours Harald Wilsons transport minister Mrs Barbara Castle with her 1968 transport act , IE deregulation ! yes any burgular ,crook ect could be in transport from then on ! bye bye to proper haulage rates ,maintenance, easy days for drivers ect , IT WAS VINDICTIVE CLASS HATE against men that had built up haulage all thier life , to favour rail ,BRS ect but of course they dare not mention to the idiots voting for them of higher prices and more danger to public with all the cowboys charter they brought in

The fact is every government which we’ve had has been all about protecting rail fom competition with road transport most of them Conservative including the so called ‘Labour’ governments which are basically just tories masquerading under the Labour name. It’s not an issue of class it’s more one of big business interests v small business ones.In which case deregulation was actually one of the better ideas but shame about the road fuel taxation policy and truck size and weight restrictions,as opposed to those in scandinavia, that stayed with it. :unamused:

This article couldn’t have come at a better time in the discussion and is a near perfect example of how, under Thatchers stewardship, and beyond, the Business-worlds “Unions” operate, in formulating policies and statutes holding governments/the people, to ransom.
Wake up people. Read between the lines. It’s very instructive.

What a surprise. It probably won’t be long now before Cameron gets chucked out of the job as Tory leader not because he’s a total idiot but because he’s also now upset the CBI. :smiling_imp:

Labours expensive study said the old hauliers were a Cartel , so better let anyone in to compete wid them , and lower the drivers working day from 14 to 10 hours max , also drop max weights back to 24 tons , and the 24 ton limit was in Kinnocks manfesto in the 1980`s , in Sweden was lowered in 1968 the size and weight of trucks down by around twenty tons to 52- 54 ton and from unlimited length down to 24 Meter , this was also to protect the railways (statens jarnvagar) but still the flow of goods was to road , a few years was allowed use of the massive trucks still after the new regs , in Danmark trucks on International was 38 ton , artics in domestic traffic was 32 ton max
