Anyone else had problems switching ISP?
Last week,I requested a MAC code from Orange, who said I would get it within 5 working days.On Friday got a letter from them saying that they had no record of a broadband connection on my number,so could not have a MAC .So,why have they been taking £17 a month since God was a lad
Anyway, called them this morning and it seems that when we changed our phone number, although we informed them of the change, they didn’t update their records. Was advised to cancel my account and that would leave me free to go to my new ISP (Talktalk),no need for a MAC.I was told that this was an "illegal migration"so I would be charged £18.11. Phoned Talktalk, told them all this and they said it was not a problem and signed up.Service will be up and running in 15 working days
2 hours later they phone back to say I do need a MAC,also it is not an illegal migration so Orange shouldn’t be charging me.Called back to Orange, who admit that I should not be charged, but they can’t give me a MAC because I cancelled my account
So now I have to wait for up to 10 working days for Orange to remove their tag from the phone line and then another 15 working days for the new service to start
Any of you boys had these problems and can it be done any quicker?
I’d get in touch with offcom and voice your concerns, they should be able to help you.

I’ve checked a few web sites and forums and it seems that Ofcom only collect information on these kind of problems, they don’t actually intervene in any cases.Seems to be a bit of a toothless organisation.
If that’s the case and ofcom are useless, i’d get customer services from talk talk get in touch with customer services from orange and get them to thrash it out between themselves and refuse to pay any more money till it’s sorted.
Highlander the timescales you have been quoted sound about right for what has been happening. Remember that is when they must have done it by so it may be quicker than 10 working days for Orange and 15 working days for TalkTalk.
If Orange haven’t removed thier tag within the timescales then TalkTalk will need to involve BT. Heres a link clicky that explains it better.
Hope you get it sorted.

Thing is,I’m not paying anyone at the moment.Cancelled Orange and haven’t got a contract with Talktalk.I’m paid up with Orange to 16 April so hopefully it will be sorted by then, but not holding my breath Seems I’m just a victim of traditional British customer service
