M8 roadworks j4a

Top tip. Follow the wide load signs at busy times. I came to a halt right at j4 today and came off to use the A89 instead (10 hour drive, too tight to sit in traffic) then realised i was on the wide load diversion route. MUCH quicker than staying on the motorway :sunglasses:

I hope they are gone by Monday, What direction were you headed E or W?

I was heading west at around 1430 heading to Warrington at my maximum speed of 52 :frowning:

52 is soul destroying, Running out of Iceland in Livingston by any any chance?

yes i am. On the Irish contract. 3 cairnryans and 2 warringtons every week on a Thursday to Monday work pattern :sunglasses:

Done a few trunks down to Warrington from there, How much drive time do you use doing a Warrington?

About 9 1/2 hours driving time, 12 1/2 to 15 hours depending on which unit, how long you have to wait for a unit and how quickly you get turned around down there. A lot of drivers don’t want them. The cairnryans were cut down to around 9 hours so i asked for warringtons to get my hours up again. It seems to be paying off. 38 hours over 3 nights. Long may they be short of units

This seems to be wrapping up now. Contraflow was gone on my way back. It was in operation last night

I done Warrington in about 09hrs 40mins, driving with a MAN, got looked at like a ■■■■ when I came back, 14 hrs and 50 mins. One guy told me I should have done it in just over 8hrs… Dream on buddy lol Its the deckers that go down to Cairnryan? Was there some issue with certain trucks that were bought to go on the boat, not being suitable to do it?

Went through the road works today, reduced to a 40, don’t think I saw any people working there, just the cones

The deckers with tail lifts were the highest problem since none of the loading bays were able to load them. They had a box sticking out at the top along the rear which used to hit the bay first. The ramps weren’t long enough and the tail lifts had to go under the ramps but over the bananas since the side clearance is literally an inch or 2. Mostly all sorted now though but they are riddled with design faults. Wires and pipes chafing, rear doors getting damaged, master fuses on the DAFs keep blowing, draining the truck batteries with the Anderson lead left in all day, side light fuses blowing. They are constantly being defected but the money is good and there is very little actual work involved.
they don’t bother too much about hours providing we don’t take the ■■■■. As long as the trailer gets to the port on time they are more concerned with frequency of stopping rather than length of break. Infringements are the main thing just now but that shouldn’t be a problem really. Warrington is a double break so i stop at Walton summit then johnstonebridge. On cairnryan i take a break there. No hurry to get anywhere as long as i meet my schedule and no issues at all with blue arrow. I get my shifts for next week on a Wednesday and they are the same every week which are the times i asked for. I clear £450 - £550 every week and it is an easy job if you can ignore the politics and play by the rules which change on a daily basis. They cant get enough drivers, especially at weekends and its still march

If your’re complaing about a wee bit eh roadworks at junction 4 just wait till the A8 and raith interchange upgrade works truley kick in. God help us all. I can see you coming down the forth village road to avoid it, only way you’ll get a Warrington done! Your daf will get a work out on that road

I’ve had a look at transport Scotland’s website to see what they are doing at the raith interchange and it’s a frigin massive project aswell as the A8 motorway upgrade.

Officially we are not allowed to use the Forth road. Not everyone is familiar with it either but some of the lads go that way anyway and that includes their own drivers on booker/iceland work.

its about time they did something with the A8/A725/M73/M74 area. They could still use a 3rd lane along the M8 and improve hermiston gait

What,like this transportscotland.gov.uk/roa … s/m8m73m74 ?
Have you not noticed the work at Chapelhall, clearing the trees etc ? Murphy’s have been relocating a gas main for months between Shawhead and bailieston,in preperation for the new motorway. The full on ■■■■ up’s are not going to start till after the Commonwealth games tho.Wouldn’t want to upset all the dignitaries with massive traffic upheaval----just leave it for us poor ■■■■■■■■ for a couple of years afterwards.

I thought Ryder were expanding their parking facilities until i found out about the road improvements. It looks like they are planning to reduce the sliproads by building a road to run parallel with the A8. I noticed a new road west of the shawhead flyover. I don’t know where they are planning to route it though or what they are planning at the raith interchange. I don’t suppose they will sort out the congestion at j6 which should only affect lane 1. Unfortunately there will always be selfish idiots stopping in lane 2 to while they wait for a gap to jump into and they are the biggest danger
