M74 extension in Glasgow to arrive nine months early

M74 extension:

The New extension to the M74 motorway in Glasgow will open to motorists/truckers almost nine months early.

The five mile (8 kilometre) motorway link will comprise three lanes in each direction and a hard shoulder on each side.

The new stretch of road will open next June - well ahead of its February 2012 deadline.

pity the A83 aint so quick

Excellent. I honestly can’t wait for the missing link to open.

They have probably skimped on quality materials and it will have collapsed in two years and closed for repairs

I had a quick look into this. They were planning from the start to be completed six months early. So I make that only 3 months ahead. (Although I must say 9 months ahead initially looks impressive)

Interesting bit of spin, “12 weeks ahead of schedule” doesn’t sound quite so good, does it?

I agree. Didn’t the same thing happen with the A1-M1 link up the east side of Leeds? Was completed way ahead of time but the surface is like a rollercoaster :unamused: . Similar story with the M60 up the eastern side of Manchester too iirc, which is like driving on the surface of the moon. :open_mouth:

Nine months early :open_mouth: Its more like 50 year late

Ive heard stories well MMTM stories that it will be made M6. Theory behind this being the renumbering of the new junctions wont make sense so they’ll change the whole lot staring at Grenta. Probably a load of pish i know but how are they going to get round the junction numbers.

Anyway it will make my life a lot easier, we have a good few drops that this new stretch will facilitate and it will also be good to dodge that Kingston bridge :grimacing:

That story does have weight as road-anoraks have confirmed. I somehow think that whilst it was on the cards a while ago, I doubt it’ll happen now, at least as long as Big Eck in charge.

There are were patches on many signs in anticipation of the change and they sometimes fell off:

In i think the early seventies the a 38 ripley bypass opened 9 months early, within a couple of months the embankment slid onto the road, and it was closed for the next few months, so much for being finished early

What you mean no more looking at the totty travelling on the M8 in rush hour ■■?
God im gutted!!!
