I tipped the Sainsburys store at Urmston the other night ad on my way back to the M60, I noticed a sign that said M63. It bought back some very vague memories from the beginning of my driving career, and I can remember the M63/M60 junctions being renumbered. Was this done when to coincide with the completion of the M60 ring road?

I think you are correct.
I always wondered why they did not re-number the M62 from M’cr to L’pool as the M602 as the M62 has a big gap in it where the M60 now is.

I think the renumbering was something to do with the M62 and m60 junctions staying sequential

You want to be on our job, when a call comes in saying “there’s been an RTC where the M60 meets the M62” OK, then which bit? Simister or Eccles? we finish up having to deploy to both locations, especially if we can’t find anything on CCTV.
