M62 Smart motorway

Ok, so there are now four lanes completely open east and westbound on M62 between Simister Island (jcn 18 ) and Rochdale (jcn 20.

My understanding is that the speed limit of 50mph remains in force for testing purposes.

However, some stretches of it are severely pot holed! Surely this is not the finished product? Is it?

It’s taken four years, millions of pounds invested and many millions lost to the economy due to hold ups and accidents and etc. Yet we are left with a road surface like that of the sea of tranquility!

The second and third lanes going Eastbound are particularly bumpy.

It was the same from J18-16 on the M1, sort of finished it, hope ed it up with a 50mph speed limit but resurfaced at a latter date presumably after resting had finished.

I’m not being pedantic, but it’s the M60.
It looks to me, like the reason the 50mph speed limit is still in force is that it is still not finished.
I really hope that, when it is complete the new learned " behaviour " of so many car drivers changes.
But i doubt it.

I still call it the 62… it’s an age thing. And I admire your optimism - the day car drivers learn anything at all is not going to happen. They all have their brain sucked out before they start the car.

Perhaps their just making the hard shoulder running more of a challenge to stay alert.

It’s a case of, right lads here you go hard shoulders open for those brave enough, but beware of:
Stranded vehicles
Debris
Dodgy lining
Oh and parts of it ain’t quite finished yet.

To be fair I was up it last month and for bits of it I thought hang on it’s finished then for other bits thought ok maybe another month or two.
I blame that lads dad in the safety pictures who is doing the job all on his own.

About a month ago, I went along that road and couldn’t believe how bad the surface was, so when I got home, I sent a Tweet to Highways England telling them how bad it was in places. In fairness to them, I got a reply saying that they would send an investigation team out to look and repair where necessary. I remember a couple of days later hearing on Radio 2 that the carriageway was down to 1 lane due to emergency repairs, so it appears they do listen.

Ken.

Quinny:
so it appears they do listen.

Ken.

better to whinge on here though :unamused: do nothing but moan :unamused: It’s ok someone else will see to it.

It still is the M62. It becomes the M60 at J18 westbound.

It’s the 62 from Hull to Liverpool as far as I’m concerned.

Was part of the M60 the M63 once over, or have I just made that up?

Used to pick JCB’s up in Trafford Park millions of years ago and I’m pretty sure the motorway that went off in that direction was the 63… over Barton Bridge etc…

Someone with a memory will know.

Yeh, think they integrated into the M60 when that became a ring road, …what? 15 or so yrs ago?

Indeedy, the bit of motorway from the M62 that went across Barton Bridge and past Trafford was the M63.
Also, the nearby M602 was originally going to be numbered M64 and it was intended to join up to the A57(M)
Mancunian Way but this has obviously never happened.

Neither did the m62 junctions 1 to 4.

Glad you agree with me then.
As the “smart motorway” section starts at J18.

Doesn’t matter.

It’s aspirational, people there still drive pack horses and donkeys with panniers, neither of which are allowed on motorways.

Now if you’re interested in what was, is, and should have been, go and have a look at this website. http://www.pathetic.org.uk/

An update:

The stretch from Simister Island (Jcn18) and 20 at Rochdale have been resurfaced this week overnight!
