The planning of the M62 was absolutely dire. Why skirt round Manchester when you could have bulldozed vast swathes of it down and reduced the opportunities for the interbreeding of more locals?

They should introduce a toll, that would keep anyone from Yorkshire away from any road where you have to pay!! :grimacing:

On a serious note,what they really need to do is extend the M67 from Hyde all the way over to the M1, that would take alot of pressure of the M62.
Also extend the M65 all the way to the A1.
And build them all 3 lanes we dont want anymore A14s please!

Not sure if they can build motorways through national parks (peak district) but Iā€™m sure someone will correct me.

Hard shoulder to be opened on M62
M62 congestion plan ā€˜to go aheadā€™

A section of one of the busiest motorways in the country is to be closed over the weekend to allow 30-tonne sign gantries to be installed.

Part of the M62 near Leeds, between junctions 27 and 28, will close for the work to take place.

The move is part of plans by the Highways Agency to allow the hard shoulder to be used as an extra lane between junctions 25 and 26.

The road will be closed from 2000 GMT on Saturday until 0800 GMT on Sunday.

The scheme includes ā€œmanaged speed limitsā€ between junctions 25 and 30.

Emergency refuges will be placed every 800m where the hard shoulder is in use.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said further overnight weekend closures would be needed on sections of the M62 between Brighouse and Rothwell until November when the installation programme would be complete.
