M62 jct26 Last Night

Opinions here seem to be very black and white about mental illness. And those who say push the poor bugger obviously have no concept or understanding of it.

As said earlier, what if it was your loved one who was feeling hopeless and wanting to end it all?

What if your loved one had a medical condition/disorder that made them a danger to themselves?

There are many people who should be in care, that currently are not! All due to the NHS being stretched to breaking point, but don’t you think or consider them. No, just say jump you bugger!

How lucky some of you are not to be aware of the suffering of others…

Very well said. I couldn’t agree more. Some of you are so ignorant to the struggles of other people. God forbid any of your family were in that position you ignorant ■■■*oles.

SCANNY77 Would you still be of the same opinion if the person on the bridge was one of your FAMILY ?. You are obviously one of the keyboard

PRINT before you THINK brigade. Never ever think you will never be in a situation like that life takes some hellish twists and turns and even you could

end up on a bridge needing HELP. Eddie.

He had a point.

If you’re going to kill yourself you do it. You don’t do it somewhere in public and stand about waiting for the plod to turn up. It’s not a genuine suicide attempt this, but an attention seeking act. The road would have been closed for clearing up reasons had it been a genuine act.

The person certainly does require some help, but as has been said it would be better achieved through the correct channels.

The majority of the populous has some ‘hellish twists’ to deal with in their lifetime. But they don’t all stand on motorway bridges wetting themselves and causing other folk an issue.

I was stuck in an even flimsier queue last night. M6 northbound between 5 and 6. Coned off down to 1 lane but the numpty chucking the cones out was doing it from the 1 remaining open lane instead of doing it from inside the closed lanes. So 3 lanes of traffic had to filter into 1 then sit behind a truck as they stopped every 10 yards to throw a cone on the floor.

Took me over an hour to get from the M42 to Spaghetti.

Worst thing was, the Highways Agency app said the delays were due to a breakdown closing 3 lanes. I’d love to see how someone could breakdown and close 3 lanes off.

I was caught in the M6 lane closure and could not believe the amount of drivers using the hard shoulder instead of waiting like everyone else. Plus a few lorries were also using the dedicated hard shoulder. Just because you have to queue this does not justify an emergency use of the hard shoulder. As the hard shoulder ran out, then they wondered why nobody was willing to let them in. Even more worrying than the lorries was a driving instructor happily bimbling down the hard shoulder.

Was disgusting mate. It’s high time something was done about these morons. And Red Xs on the gantries need motion sensors on them with ANPR cameras.

Yep, that point/argument is all very logical. But sadly logic has very little to do with anything when someone is in that sort of state of mind…

As for (potential) bridge jumpers. Well, a friend of mine works for the Village hotel chain. He says most people would be surprised how many people check in to hotels just to kill themselves. They don’t want to burden their family with finding the body so do it to the hotel staff instead. Bad for the staff obviously but pretty much goes un-noticed. The hotel certainly don’t want to broadcast it. These are the ones who really want to kill themselves.

Those that hang off a bridge for a few hours then get back down are just crying for help. Unfortunately this costs god knows what in lost productivity as we all grind to a halt on the motorway. There are other ways to cry for help. I know as I’ve suffered with clinical depression myself.

Sorry to hear you have been a sufferer, but that doesn’t make you an expert or able to categorise who is or isn’t a serious risk to themselves! Everyone is different, and the fact that you wouldn’t choose a bridge while you premeditatedly think about it, doesn’t mean that will be the same for someone else, or even you in the heat of the moment. Yes a lot of people use hotels for these choices, but saying that people on bridges are not serious, is just ridiculous.

Maybe they are wasting their money in the link below, and should spend the 76 million dollars on hotel room surveillance?

The truth is every possible suicide attempt is treated the same (seriously), and should be treated the same no matter what the circumstances. Not even if that person has made repeated attempts, as you never know if this time will be for real or not. I’m sorry that some people think that this is an inconvenience to their lives due to the selfish actions of the jumper, who apparently is only threatening to jump and not really meaning it. But instead of people worrying about how it impacts them, they should just be grateful it isn’t them on the bridge with a reason to jump!

I never said I was an expert, don’t put words into my mouth. I meant I can at least relate to how they may be feeling.

I never meant all bridge jumpers are not being serious either, some actually go through with it. Several bridges on the M6 have flowers on them at various times of the year. I was referring to those who get back down. If you really want to kill yourself you just do it. The vast majority (72% Office for National Statistics) do it by hanging or overdose. They generally don’t hang about for hours while someone tries to talk them out of it. Only 3.5% jump from something. Some people just want help and hanging off a motorway bridge tells everyone you need help in a way few other suicides can.

Was anyone else caught out during the night there?

02:30am on my merry way up the M62 just gone past jct26 started going up the incline and where the 26 slip joins up to the 62 it came to a halt, only 3 cars in front of me one in each lane as I approached when the Police flagged me down to say there had just in the past 2mins been an “incident” further ahead and they were trying to sort it as quick as they could so I could be on my way…

More traffic started piling up behind me, put myself straight onto break & rang the office to tell them tell everyone else to get off at jct25 for Brighouse and make their way around it. Noticed the opposite side was closed as well I thought it must be a serious crash of some sort, the traffic officer was keeping quite tight lipped about what had gone on to everyone then after an hour they got everybody on the 26 slip road to turn back around and go back to the bottom of the junction then finally let me swing round and go down it myself, as I passed the officer I stopped and asked if the accident had been serious and if the road would be closed till the morning when he said “we are dealing with an incident on one of the bridges”

So all that delay was due to some numbskull probably bladdered wanting his back rubbed and to be told “there there it will all be ok” bloody attention whores. It would of been worth him jumping just to be justified holding everyone up for no good reason.

It could be someone who’s lost their children (death, wife taken them, social services) and they now feel they have nothing to live for, I feel sorry for anyone in that state of mind.

Sometimes people need help and sometimes that the only way they know how to get it.

if thats the case why dont they take a bottle of pills at home instead of holding the roads up and us trying to make a living
