2 hours of light snow that had been forecast and one of the main arteries of the country is closed for at least 6 hours WTF are the Highways Agency doing. Last time this happened to the Motorway they said would never be closed by the weather it was caused by a small section between the slip roads at Jn 22 not being gritted. Apparently both lots of gritters from either side of the Pennines used the Junction to turn round and forgot about the section inbetween the slip roads - pathetic.
No snow on the ground in Bury now.
They have closed the motorway to grit it. Call me a fool but shouldn’t that have been done last night?
It was this one that caused it, although a small picture.
It is on the slip road of Junction 22

They were actually out gritting from about 3pm yesterday.
The HA won’t have closed the road so it can be gritted, because to make the grit work you need traffic running over it.
There was an incident on/near rakewood viaduct that initially closed the c/way, then because the c/way had been closed and no traffic moving over the surface, coupled with fallen snow, the c/way would then need an extra heavy gritting prior to reopening it.

Blame Lynn Bowles not me mate.
Who’s Lynn Bowles when they’re washed & clean??
I wasn’t blaming anyone, I was explaining that gritting had started some hours previous, and also what actually happens after an incident has stopped the traffic driving over the surface activating the grit properties for some time.

I’ll find out who it was tomorrow, as I’m currently in there on the agency. The double deck trailers with the Mercs on the front are atrocious for traction.
What I can tell you is, it wasn’t me as I was in Worcestershire.
Ken.
Took a gamble on the A59 and it was as clear as a bell…
4 mile further down the road not a zip of snow
The M62, the motorway that would never close, at least that’s what they said when it was built, pity they forgot about the weather!
I was going from blackburn to a sports centre near the white rose centre, I got to simister and saw the traffic at standstill, quick u-turn then Rawtenstall-Bacup-Todmorden-Halifax-Leeds job done. Then back to Halifax on the old A650, then A58 drighlington down to the bottom of the M606.
Easy peasy with a bit of thinking and a ROAD-ATLAS…
