M62 50 mph speed limit

Why is it the restricted 50 mph section you can never actually do 50. Also some prat always sits in the middle lane doing 40 stopping any progress. Grrr

My car speedo @ 70mph and 2500rpm is actually 62mph

Although, if I keep it about 2100rpm that’s about 60mph on the clock and 55 on the GPS, but it does push my fuel consumption from 45mpg to 55mpg as I’m commuting 450 miles a week

Speed limits are a maximum not a target to be achieved. What difference does 3 minutes make in a 10 hour drive apart from 3 minutes?
To achieve long life midlife chill.

It always brasses me off too, the buggers can’t stay below 80 on the open motorway but can’t do 50 through camera controlled roadworks.

I had a car pull in front of me as I approached roadworks on the M5 on Thursday, he’she then pulled in so fast and braked down to about 45 I couldn’t believe it. I do have a forward facing camera but forgot to take the card out and it rewrited itself after a few hours so it’ll be gone.

could 50 on a car speedo be an actual speed of 45 ?

Some cars have a digital speedo which you can clearly see reading 50 as you overtake at a rate of knots - also doing 50…?

agreed, but still annoying.

i go through the 50mph section virtually everyday between rothwell and brighouse, and always without fail, westbound just after the exit slip to j25 downhill to the last camera at the bottom of the hill, ■■■■■■■ car drivers always slow down to 40mph, leaving me struggling to get up the hill with fully loaded liquid tank, ■■■■■ do it everytime

Then pass on the nearside on the limiter

fixed that for you.

Does a digital readout speedo on a car make it more accurate ?

I do not think so because that has nothing to do with the actual calibration

THIS ^^^ Your not the only one that suffers, fully freighted is a pig when you have to slow down for the numpties that bunked off school when averages were being taught, I was down to 30 all the way up the hill the other day :imp: .

Correct, the digital part is only the display. The reading from the gearbox is obtained in the same way and the law remains the same, it can legally over-read by up to 10% but must not under-read.

I have the same complaint as the OP. Not only can people not choose a speed and stick to it, they also forget what lanes are for during roadworks.

Although if on your test it would be classed as not making progress!
