Luckly only minor injuries
Muckspreader, the road is covered with diesel, right from the impact point and unless a gritter & sweeper can get there PDQ, the tarmac is ruined, that’s why it has to be resurfaced.
It got better didn’t it, Wagon then managed to hit the arched railway bridge going into Carnforth just adds insult to injury.
Amazing it’s minor injuries only, I’d hate the thought of going tumbling down the road within the cab.

No f**king way . How on earth did the guy escape with minor injuries from cab bouncing down the m6. Lucky lucky man.

I imagine his seatbelt played a major part but there was some here the other day that think seatbelts are more likely to harm you. Hope they learn from this.
Also seen that one of Heverins rocketships has gone for a lay down on the M1 J14 slip

with all the deckers that travel overnight, why did they shut the motorway at j35 when there is a low bridge on the diversion? Plus the signs only went as far as Lancaster. Once you got there you were left to find your own way which in most cases meant following M6S signs which took you to j34. Several miles past j34 there was a mini roundabout which was big enough for us all to U turn and go back to Lancaster to try again
The railway bridge is pretty tall but being an arch it needs wagons to get into the middle which was probably the issue.
Tbh it highlights the issues as off the top of my head (and living less than 5 mile from said site) I can’t think of an easy way round short of going all the way over t’other side of the country.

As stupid as it sounds, the cab coming off probably did him a favour as it takes away from the major forces going on. I also think it’s impressive as looking at the pics it must have hit those Concrete barriers in the central res, and for them to keep it on it’s own side is a major victory.
I came off at J36. On the A65 to Kirkby Lonsdale - Settle - Long Preston.
A682 to Nelson - M65 - A56 -M66 to M60 then across to Warrington on M62.
I hit J36 at 19.30 and it was clear as a bell all the way.
An extra 1½ hours to my journey. Better than the 4 hours one of ours took who decided to go through the ■■■■.
Well done 3ducks, the warnings were there right from the Scotland / England border, it was all over traffic radio, as well. Drivers need to use their brains like you did, but they don’t unfortunately.
DIVERSION ROUTES, are agreed with the local councils along them as the PREFERRED route for the MAJORITY of the traffic forced off the motorways, and believe me, they still complain like hell when we send 1000’s of vehicles through their locality along these routes.
There’s a good number of routes with bridges that are low compared to the 16’6" minimum height of motorway bridges, it’s up to drivers of these high vehicles to use their brain as soon as they are aware that they may be diverted, and to work out a route appropriate to their vehicle, also to use their No1 eyeballs, and when they see the advance warning signs of these bridges to check their maps / sat-navs again for an alternative route, there will be one but it won’t be where the local council want to send the other 000’s of cars as well.
You’ve got to remember that most A/B roads were built a long time prior to motorways, and the tallest vehicle in those days would have been a double-decker bus around a town, out in the wilds it wouldn’t have been even that. Motorways came along and companies then had vehicles built as high as possible to maximise the load carrying capacity but staying under the 16’6" bridge limit, these vehicle will normally go from depot to depot very near to a motorway junction, so off the motorway a route does need to be seriously planned.
The traffic was routed off at J34 first, but it completely grid-locked Lancaster due to the one-way system there, both us and the police were getting numerous calls from the local authorities, bus companies and individual drivers complaining that this diversion route wasn’t coping, that was when the police decided to take them off at J35 instead. When the low bridge problem came to light, extra manpower was needed to try to sift out the over-height HGV’s, these were then sent down the closed part of the motorway between J35 - J34 and had to wait there until the traffic had died down enough to let them leave at J34.
That was nearly an impossible task.

All the message signs said that it was closed TO J33, be it from J34 or J35 (when it was changed) surely PROFESSIONAL drivers can work it out that you don’t try to get back on at J34.
Sorry, my mistake! I forgot that there are a lot of HGV drivers that don’t take a blind bit of notice about signs, closure signs or bridge height signs to name but a couple.
Ninety percent of the time the information displayed on motorway matrix signs is incorrect out of date irrelevant and unhelpful. The other ten per cent they just state the obvious. Last night was no exception.
I came off a J35 then went on a mystery tour around darkest Yorkshire/Lancashire eventually rejoining around Preston.
Rubbish! The message signs were updated immediately there was a change in the issue, They ALWAYS said that it was closed to J33, now if you come off at J35 you’re on the A6, and apart from finding your way through Lancaster, you’d trip over the J33 junction at Galgate. I suggest that you learn to read a map instead of someone else having to lead you by the hand all the time.
The only good thing about last night’s diversion was going through Lancaster at chucking out time some fine sights to be had

Difficult to see how any professional driver, or indeed any driver can defend the poor operation of the matrix signs (not only last night but generally) unless its someone with an axe to grind. FYI. It was by a bit of old fashioned map reading that we did avoid much of the traffic, although we were lucky we were only 13’ 10".
Some very lucky people. thevisitor.co.uk/news/local/ … -1-6750326
I ran out of driving time but the trailer got collected and my card is clean. Now i am going to run in solo for to nights shift

There was no poor operation of the matrix signs, get that into your head, stop rolling out the old excuses!, every message sign from J45 said “M6 closed, J34 (orJ35 when it changed) to J33” the small central res old fashioned ones will only take wickets, and they showed lanes 2 & 3 closed just prior to whichever junction you were being taken off at, so as to move traffic over to he sliproad. But drivers still insisted on running right up to the cones, stopping the moving traffic so they could then push in, HGV’s and cars alike.
HGV’s were at one point taken up the Quarry slip road at J35, so as to miss the low’ish bridge on the main diversion route, but that also caused problems, so it was reverted back to sending the high ones down to wait prior to J34 for that exit to be reopened.
You said earlier that
I came off a J35 then went on a mystery tour around darkest Yorkshire/Lancashire eventually rejoining around Preston
now you say that your HGV was only 13’10", so no problem with the bridge after J35, yet you couldn’t find J33 entrance but went down to Preston. I still say that you need some basic lessons in map reading! plus new glasses!
For all the HGV truck steerers like yourself that think it’s all done wrong and know a much better way to do it, lets be hearing it, I’ll gladly put it to the Bosses if it makes any sense (but I very much doubt it will!)
Remember also, it was two HGV steerers that caused all this, and the other day on the M62, no cars involved (apart from the one that got pushed into the barrier by he HGV on the M62)
So who’s going to defend the “professional” driver who expertly managed to hit a broken down artic on the hard shoulder, rip his cab off and deposit it in the middle of the M6?
Could the driver in question, pop his license into the bin on the way to Specsavers please?
