If these so called SMART motorways with hard shoulder running and variable speed limits, did not also include gatso scammeras and other not so obvious speed scammeras on gantry’s then they wouldn’t be another revenue generator to extort money from that cash cow the motorist, as well as the proffesional driver, Smart nope it’s just bolloxs, why spend money on this dumb idea, more motorways are the real answer, that and a reduction in the pouplation of this country little wonder the road network can’t cope, and IMO the DVLA or DSA really should stop giving full driving licences as prizes in lucky bags,
Waist of time having a managed motorway that isn’t managed LOL so they have to install cameras to get everyone sitting at the same speed.
Every Friday on the A1 or M6 and its a constant stop start stop start for mile after mile after mile. Like it or not these managed motorways do cut this out and get traffic moving at a constant speed.

same with the m62,they have the signs set at 50 for no reason at all i.e. clear road and not much traffic.
Sunday night last week they had 50 set on every matrix sign from Preston right the way up to ■■■■■■■■■■ gap on the M6. That’s about 100 miles of road. Reason? Stiff breeze, which was coming from the south. 
Thankfully there’s no “smart” managed motorway for any of that section so it was universally ignored by everyone but imagine if that was all managed motorway with speed cameras. You’d be doing your nut.
