Did anyone get caught yesterday at the Cathorpe interchange due to another crash. Its about time something was done. I heard a statistic that there have been 35 deaths this year already at this junction, surely the powers that be cannot let it happen much more.
I agree, when you see the major rebuilding going on at some far less busy / dangerous around the country, you wonder why no action has been taken. Money probably.

Plans are under way to redo that junction but all the planning and consultation takes time, I think I read they expect to start it within a couple of years.
Whoever planned it in the first place should be shot it is the most dangerous junction i have ever seen.

ok then only another 70 odd deaths to go
think il give that bit a miss.
Have it on good authority work could be starting next year.
2008 or early 2009
I got stuck on the Northbound side due to the air ambulance landing, I hope the person(s) in the car was ok■■?
it wasnt the catthorpe where it happened it was further up just before junction 1. i went passed it north bound at about 1000 it was a right mess
Can’t help you with M6 s/b. I usually just sit in it and play with the cars if I’m light enough. But if your coming down the M1 for the A14 or West/North on the 14 for M1 n/b; I found a useful little wiggle a few months ago.
Come off at 20 (M1 s/b) and through to Husbands Bosworth, turn right, down the A5119 (■■) Follow that down past the sort of Truckstop of Welford, then turn left back onto the 14 at Jct 1.
You can do it the other way round if you’re coming West/North.

If a road has more than 2 or 3 numbers to it’s name, I don’t usually bother with it (I’m just lazy and like to let these new teknologies drive the truck for me) but if you look at it on a map, the M1/A14/A4304/A5119 form an almost perfect square, so the mileage difference is negligible.
Me and a mate time-trialled it a few weeks ago. Doing it fully freighted, with no traffic problems; staying on the M1/A14 is about 8 minutes quicker, so if there are just the normal Monday/Friday hold ups (*other leg coverings are available) it can save you 30 - 40 minutes. The difference between getting home or not ■■
Don’t tell everyone otherwise us clued up drivers will be queing that way as well!
Going south on the M6 turn left onto the A428 for Lutterworth, turn right (south) onto the A5, as you go downhill just before the truckstop there is a turning on your left for Cathorpe. A 7.5 ton weight limit. If you go down it it leads you to the M6/A14 junction. Left takes you up the M6 split and right takes you to the roundabout leading you onto the A14. Of course you can only do it in something in under 7.5T but a big truck can physically fit fine through it all, not that i’d condone it !!
