Condolaneces from myself but i would like to know.

  1. Is this happening too often?.

  2. Why is it happening so often?.

i spoke to a guy from stan robisons he says it was one of there drivers who died he had a stroke apparently he thinks he went by the name of wilf,my thoughts are with his family, the driver i spoke to thinks he was near retiring age,so sad.shame about the others as well risking there lifes just to do there job.

Jammymut, in reply to your points you could argue that once is too often but I suspect it happens for the the same reasons that apply to your second question too.

  1. Large volumes of traffic on inadequate roads, get into difficulty for whatever reason and you have no safety margin, no where to go.
  2. Inadequately trained and complacent drivers, I aim this mostly at Cars and Vans, etc but there is always going to be an element of LGV drivers too.
  3. Excessive Speed for the prevailing conditions (Traffic volume and Road/Weather) and 7.5 tonners flying around at 70mph, sorry No! (Hard hat at the ready)
  4. Non LGV drivers not versed or trained in the needs of large vehicles or Motorway driving
  5. Carelessness, arogance, neglect or just a simple momentary lapse of concentration, we are all human after all and equally susceptable.
  6. If accident rates were not acceptable to society and I mean here, US, JOE PUBLIC, not head in the sand politicians, then, and only then will anything get done about it.

I balance this by stating that whilst all this is happening you are trying to make a living, a profit, satisfy customers, meet deadlines, get TM’s off your back and stay sane.

What B____y chance have you got?

First,I wish to give all concerned my condolances and trust those that were
injuriedmake a fulland speedy recovery,
Some one wrote this is happening too often, it is unfortunately true and
it may reflect on many points as to why heavy -goods-drivers are due
to stress, ill health, bad diet( NO -NOT ABOUT OBESITY); lack of training,
lack of work experience, modern day work ethics (OVER-EAGER); not
observeing rigorously all those rules and regulations to which we are
supposed to work.As a lot of people may not know in GERMANY you
are entitled to a KUR this is a visit to a center which has various
doctors and nurses with many assistents who carry out tasks like
rehabilation exersizes, gymnastics, swimming exersizes, training under a
quailified person in the multi-gym, stress-awareness and how to combat it
courses, and the list goes on, If some sort of copy in this direction could
be made it may benifit the industry no end with less time being off
work ill by many workers,I also belive if the authorities were to bring in
yearly control check up for those drivers who are employed in certain
aspects of transport this may help bring down this number who due
to the work suffer, Any practable and workable idea that can save lives
and unessacary suffering must be tried out,
