M6 full closure January 2026

Is the closure and subsequent massive diversion going to affect anyone on here for the first 2 weekends in January. The M6 is going to be closed in both directions to enable the west coast mainline rail bridge between J40 and 39 to be replaced.

A6 will be a bit busy

Plus have road works further south j34 to 40 lune bridge replacement
Sorry just realised same area

Wagons won’t be allowed to use the A6 southbound during the day, official diversion is A66 - A1 - M62 and back on M6 again at 21A I believe.

All plant will be removed from the Lune works during the 2 weekends in case we need to use it for emergency access to incidents.

What! Who the ■■■■ has come up with that idea?

No idea! I’m on nights for the first weekend, so I’ll have a short patrol route, the next weekend, it’s right in the middle of a 6 block of 3 earlies, 3 lates, so I may be in for a busy time.

Wtf?..is somebody having a girrafe or what.
So somebody setting off from Carlisle to go to say Carnforth has to do that?
Effin ridiculous, which f.wit came up with that one?

Beyond my pay grade, I’ll only be getting the grief on the ground! :scream:

But it defies logic…it’s beyond ridiculous.

So the n/b is going to be ok for trucks but congested,.and the s/b is also going to be congested…but with cars only.

Brilliant bit of planning.
Give that man a pay raise.
.

Same man whos thought up the M27 9 to 11 closure from chrimbo eve till 4th January for a new juction bridge section to be put in
The A27 aint gonna cope.through Fareham

I’d love to have a heavy trailer crawling up at 20mph holding the weekend driver plebs up

Seems the A6 is closed to all but local traffic South of Penrith. Should have suspended the weight limit through Kirkby Stephen temporarily for the weekends. The nimbys probably been up in arms though.

Just looked at it on Highways. Bet they’ve spent a fortune setting up these enforcement cameras.
Definitely better a night driver here as its down the A6 after 8pm.

20 mph? that would have been flying!

So what’s the reading behind no trucks south on A6? Don’t think there’s any weight limits or bridges.
And how they going to enforce it then.? Say you have a delivery that way and you always use the A6.
Surley can’t expect you to make 100plus mile diversion.

Obviously planned by someone in an office miles away using Google maps.

Who will probably be finished work now untill new year. And be safely away from it all aboad or in there second homes down Cornwall way

I hope it snows we have bad weather and the a 66 is shut to high sided vehicles .
then what will they do. ?
Give up and go back home

At a guess if they think there are so many unroadworthy foreign vehicles on our roads they don’t want them running away down the hills because the brakes are ■■■■■■.

Look on the bright side it might also inconvenience Bewick’s shopping trips.

If I’ve got it right I’m trying to picture a Geordie shouting at the pick and shovel crew are you lot ‘avin a bleedin giraffe.Youre spending too long dan saf Rob.

Wouldn’t swap A1 for M6 would stay on it.

Thanks for that @cav551, normally I skip videos but I really got sucked into that one, for nearly an hour, unbelievable.

Shap was not a normal route for me, based in Nottingham, although I had used it a few times in the old days and of course was aware of it.

Loved the regular shots of the Atki 8 wheeler and drag and the Leyland Otto as well, but here’s a puzzle. Somewhere along the line an atki with an empty low loader got into the mix and, towards the end the low loader was behind the Atki wag and drag with the Otto way back in the distance. Next we see the Otto right up the arse of the Atki 8 legger again. Surely the Otto hadn’t found a burst of speed and overtaken the artic, no way, so somebody got their shots mixed up when they were putting it all together.

I loved the bloke who said the lorry drivers had to stop at caffs fequently to cool down in their over heated cabs. High summer apart, the main thing I remember from those days is desperately trying to get warm. The old picture of a BRS driver in army greatcoat and flat cap was not unrealistic.

But loved every minute of it, then, and now with the video, but blue skies and sunshine beckon here in France and the dog is getting twitchy for his morning walk. It’s just us two in the house now, 2 old blokes hanging on and gradually heading towards the sunset. :joy:
