M56 Crash Chaos jnc 14-12 2 dead

Not good  chesterchronicle.co.uk/news/

Very poor diversion routes as well from M56 west,
Either A556 or through the tunnels because of the low bridge in Frodsham

And someone’s hit the bridge in Frodsham as well… from what I hear from various colleagues, that part of West Cheshire is basically gridlocked. If you’re heading to North Wales or for a ferry, I would give the entire area a swerve. Mersey tunnel isn’t an option because something has happened on the top of the M53 as well

One lane shut on the exit slip. Traffic was stationary in lane 1 for 3/4 mile when I passed minutes before this happened
If you’re too high turn right at the lights in Frodsham and meander thru Kingsley to the A49

Seen this today just after it happened, horrific , poor fellas my sympathy for their families. This happened on a clear dry day. Please guys winters coming KEEP YOUR DISTANCE and stay safe.

Came off at this junction earlier and imo it’s VERY poorly signed, the queues for the slip road over run into the motorway lane 1 was stationary and as I approached the wagon had no brake lights on,no hazards just sat stationary in the queue so unless your paying full attention you could easily as what has happened slam into the back of someone.

It’s the same situation on the north bound m6 at the m58 junction in the morning peak, it’s carnage waiting to happen some even try and cut in from lane 2 and end up sitting on that lane. Frightening.

Yes, those 10’ x 5’ signs with QUEUES LIKELY on are definitely inadequate. :unamused:

Is that a car all the emergency services are standing around? It looks absolutely mangled, I wonder what happened?

Thoughts with the families of those who have been affected by this. Looks quite horrific. :frowning:

Looks like a lorry has sandwiched a car up against the back of a tipper. Liverpool echo is claiming fatalities in 2 separate vehicles. Maybe that white artic driver bought it as well :frowning:

Left hand down!:

No excuses for hitting anything on that uphill section of the Weaver viaduct there, the visibility where that shunt happened is excellent (unless foggy b4 you start).

Are those hard signage queues likely ? Not been that way for a while and they are all on old central res wickets in that area i think.

No automatic MIDAS in place yet which everyone moans about but which should help prevent things like this happening ( if it’s not a good part of the movie ?)

Is it were 1 lane is shut on the slip and it causes everyone to come to a standstill then stop start ?

Queues are often there SG,always at peak hence the signage, as the slip is short and curved. If you’re not 3 foot of the bloke in front and actually paying attention to your surroundings, looking ahead and well you know “driving” not steering wheel attending …

That stretch of the M56 is lethal on winter mornings as you get a very low sun right in your eyes, did a commute on it for 5 years (in opposite direction) and it felt like there was a bump every morning…

I saw something for the first time on Tuesday on the M5 towards Bridgewater, that cars and lorries were stopping on the hard shoulder approaching junctions where there was a queue back on to the motorway instead of stopping in lane 1, could not make my mind up on if this was a good thing or not, if you knew about it great, but if like me I would have carried on in lane 1 then would have had to try and push my way in, when I realised - but made me think in these days of managed motorways it could be widely adopted (nobody with a degree in traffic management thought that up, just ordinary motorists)

I’ve seen the stopping on the hard shoulder rather than lane 1 at peak times often over the years it used to happen a lot on the M1 at Junction 36 N/B before they fitted lights on the roundabout and changed the road layout.
Some on here may disagree but I think it’s a good idea.

Truck drivers!, moaning about road safety, signs, poor visibility ,loads of crap all the time. I drive day in day out and all I see is on the motorways is too fast too close driving by truck drivers. It’s careless and complacent. You save seconds by kissing the arse of another vehicle why do it? Stop rushing it is stressfull and dangerous. Someone give me a valid example of flying round ignoring safety has been worth it?

Hard shoulder is coned off at that junction, these cones carry on to close lane 1 of the slip - Incidentally, I have witnessed vehicles ‘stop dead’ there, in lane 2 because they have mistimed filtering & can’t get over into lane 1/jct 12 exit (many (inc HGV’s & vans are repeat offenders)
