Beat me to it!!

Dare I say justice was served? The guy obviously did nothing with malicious intent & this was just a terrible accident. We can sometimes be over zealous in our hunt for a scape goat I believe.

No dare about it mate, it’s a joke he even got took to court, his poor family would have been through hell with him!

If you can’t see where your going you stop! Mot continue to drive at 70, 80, 90 or 120 what some lunatics do in bad conditions. It’s a speed limit not a target.

And another agreement here.

What if it wasn’t a fire, what if it was just fog?? Sometimes ■■■■ happens.

Good result …

Now see if they blame the 1st or last driver in the accident ■■

Witch hunt comes to mind.

Mr Geoffrey Counsell may you enjoy Christmas this year fella…

I bet he won’t be letting any fireworks off though.

You’re gonna get slated for that.

But it was funny.

I’ve updated the story with a bit more info

We could stop this ever happening again by simply banning fireworks. What purpose do the y serve, ffs?

good decision on behalf of the judge, stopping the case because a lot was based on hindsight, I hope the bloke can move on with his life now.

Not much…but they do give enjoyment to many.

glad he got off,as silver surfer stated they were looking for a scapegoat and they found it in this farmer,i still believe it was blanket fog and although i feel sorry for the victims, somebody done something wrong as they entered the fog to cause the crash, maybe panic set in who knows,i dont think they[the authorities] will ever find out

Who are the ambulance chasers going to go after now for the compo !" Somebody must be held responsible, its not about the money…yadda yadda yadda".Should never have gone to court, seems we have one sensible judge.

Who might have set a precedence for future Health and Safety cases.

Yep who will they go after? Ultimately the fault lied with someone on that road; people weren’t driving to the conditions.

Justice has been served as far as I can see it.

The whole disaster could of been avoided certainly. But to blame a bloke who was putting on a firework display for the ■■■■ poor driving standards exhibited by a good number of people that night is a shades of ■■■■■■■ wrong

Like most other people I agree that he should never have been prosecuted and I’m glad he got off, but I do question the wisdom of having large firework displays within 200 yards of a busy motorway.

Realistically, the first to the last vehicle to rear end some one should be done, but since they would not be able to do all of them, would mean not doing any of them.
One other good out come though is, you never see any of a certain haulage companies vehicles tailgating in convoy any more!

So pleased to hear this, I’m an organiser of a small public event and knowing that I could be in the dock over something I couldn’t have foreseen is a worry. Really glad to see common sense has won out.
