M5 accident yesterday at 17.15 .,

It was shut for 11 hours in both directions from j 8 and 11, a lorry driver was flown by air ambulance to Southmead hospital in a serious condition.
The lorry hit the central reservation in to the opposite carriageway, several cars involved.
I came out of Strensham , for the police waving us off at j9, I was going south, so turned around at j9 to exit at the M50 and use the South Wales option via Ross on Wye.

Why was it closed from Tewkesbury to Gloucester? Where was the actual crash?
11 hours??

Unfortunately I was a few miles in front of you and sat stationary for 3 1/2 hours before plod managed to open the hard shoulder. Because of that I didn’t get home until 9pm this evening.

I’m getting thoroughly ■■■■■■ off with this tactic. OK summat happened, close the road and inconvenience thousands of folks and do all our measuring etc etc while they wait with children and dogs and whatever else. And before anybody starts yes I know someone is hurt/dead but I still don’t think that justifies this approach. In this day and age with cameras an ddash cams everywhere it shouldn’t take them long to find out what went on.

Yeah I joined the back of the pack about 1.5 miles from Strensham. They must have been slow putting info on the overhead signs as there was no warning of this until the first sign said “Q ahead” just as we were slowing down :frowning:

It made me have a night out as I was loaded for Port Talbot but running back to the yard in Gloucester to go home, but obviously we got booted onto the M50 so I thought I might as well run down and parked at Cardiff with 15 mins to spare on my 15hr.

Lets be honest, the main reason they ‘investigate’ for hours & hours is to find someone to blame/prosecute. Neither of which will bring the deceased back to life or heal injuries any quicker…but they do provide a sense of satisfaction/revenge for the families…and somewhere to send the bill…

I’ve said before.
There are only a few examiners and investigators with the type of equipment that’s used and if that guy has been on shift and gets called out, out of hours because their off duty they still have to get to the scene, oh yeah it’s blocked, once the scene is secure they don’t just take snaps it’s more in depth. Look at the BATH incident more than meets the eye.

Most countries in Europe don’t shut roads for hours after accidents.
They push imoblie vehicles out of the way with bull bars or tow ropes/chains.
I once had to park an artic in a Travel Lodge car park, due to man run over and killed on a
Dual carriageway .
The police had shut the road for a long time.
The body was left in the road, you could see the incident from the fuel station, I couldn’t sleep and went to buy stuff, I could see the police were not doing anything.
I did wonder why shut it for that time, I saw them leave in the morning .

I’ve been held up a few times where a fatality has happened for various reasons. I don’t get annoyed (sometimes miffed) but at least I WILL get home alive. Just a thought.

Being A, in the know and B, local to the incident. I have heard that the original incident involved a vehicle which was “known” to the police.

But I totally agree with the above.
