Sidevalve:
I’m happy to admit that it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve got halfway through that section, come up behind an HGV doing a fair bit less than 50, checked clear behind and overtaken, having forgotten about the ban.
And I very much doubt if I’m the only one.
Same
If I’m empty I won’t be sitting behind a fully freighted one struggling up the hill. I can see exactly why the bans were brought in, it’s annoying to see two side by side crawling up the hill causing a rolling road block and shouldn’t happen but nipping out on the limiter for seconds isn’t any hardship to the cars
Thats as maybe, but the laws the law and you run the risk.
Not much of a risk really, I’ve been doing it since they were brought in so that’s a lot of years of nothing
In Europe…
Particularly Italy, the no overtaking signs for lorries depicted a red lorry passing a small black car. My lorry was white, so the prohibition didn’t apply to me.
I have on occasion strayed into lane two within these restrictions, it’s invariably been to pass agricultural machinery and on one occasion on the A34 a peloton of lycra loons!
Mostly I just knock the cruise off when I catch someone, I’m rarely in a hurry and certainly not enough of a hurry that the one thousand yards I’d gain overall makes that much of a difference.

Indeed you do. You will note though that I stressed that it happened when I’d forgotten about the restriction and had checked for a clear road behind me so that no traffic was ever impeded. It would be a very harsh copper who pulled you for that; I accept that what I did was contrary to the rules but as someone once said, rules are made for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.
The alternative would have been (had I remembered the restriction was still in force) to slow down to a much lower speed, which would probably have had a knock-on effect on any traffic behind me. Which scenario offers the greater risk of a collision?

I thought rules were made to be interpreted differently.
