M42 hard shoulder running

Seems like the M42 is almost ready for its hard shoulder running experiment. The work seems almost finished so I’m hoping that one day the cones will be gone…

This wasn’t good enough for a Saab driver today though. He came on the northbound slip at junction 10 Tamworth and noting the 3 artics in the nearside lane and the Dunns of Shildon Scania with impressive convoy overtaking (took almost until the A444 junction!). Saab driver then decided to continue along the hard shoulder and get past the trucks on the nearside! Not seen that manoevre done before, apart from exiting in heavy traffic.

Looks like the bases are in for the no overtaking signs on the stretch up the hill to junction 11.

had this on wednesday evening between livingston and bathgate m8 east bound.there was a bit of heavy traffic and as i looked in the nearside mirror there was 2 cars racing up the hard shoulder.they found their brakes work as my trl got moved by the wind     and when they got past me the dust was every where, but what the second car did not see was the car broken down on the hard shoulder ahead.he had to dive infront off another truck to avoid hitting this car.then he dive’s out to the outside lane and upset a few drivers.boy racers how these guy’s pass their test’s is beyond belief.

Most lorries are fitted with a speed limiter and can get stuck in the outside lane while overtaking. In England you often find the lorries being overtaken (often light weight supermarket types with inexperienced drivers) will not ease off to allow the overtaking lorry past. This seems to be what has happened and while I certainly would never condone the dangerous and reckless driving by the saab driver, I think we can all appreciate his frustration.
