M42 = 60 but limiter likely to keep at 56 max
A42 = 50
If a cop says different then make sure they put the exact charge on the ticket and where exactly it was because they will look like plonkers if doing a LGV over 7.5 for over 50 on the M42 - unless a lower limit has been posted

despite it being motorway although having dual carriageway
Motorways and dual carriageways are different as far as regulations go despite the actual physical similarities. The fact that the M42 only has two lanes on this section doesn’t make it a dual carriageway, it is by definition a motorway.
You’ll notice that where it becomes the A42 lots of things change about it. The most noticeable of these is that there are lay bys at the side of the carriageway, and no hard shoulder to speak of. It’s got nowt to do with how many lanes there are, as mrpj says.

RDC Bullshine. The clue is in what you wrote. Dual Carriageway. 2 carriageways as opposed to 2 lanes. A motorway is a motorway regardless of how many lanes it has, same goes for an A road. The A3 into Guildford has 3 lanes, M42 before the A42 only 2 but the speed limits are still different, 60 on the M42 and 50 on A3. The A3 has no hard shoulder and lots of small exits on and off.
Average Joe doesn’t take much notice though, I’m generally the slowest truck on large A roads like the A14 and A34. No one seems to get done either, I’ve certainly never heard of it.

I imagine that your absolute worst nightmare would be to be forced to call the police out and for them to turn up in Tesco home delivery vans due to cutbacks!
I can’t count the amount of times I’ve been passed by traffic old bill on the limiter on a roads never mind dual carriageways or had them coming toward me. If thy wanted to pull me they would of. I’m probably going to get the “professional driver” nonsense for this but if the roads clear and it’s safe to do so it’s 56 for me all the time. Obviously not in built up areas and the like but on open a roads it’s 56

It would be, no pint in living, might as well top myself & hope the tesco po-lice don’t come so I can rest in pieces…

Just thought I would require assistance of anybody who has knowledge of the following situation
M42, Motorway signs to signify motorway regulations in process - Only Dual carriageway
A42, Non-Motorway signs - Dual carriageway
Speed for M42 = 56
A42 = 50
Correct / Incorrect,
Heard a rumour that police were doing drivers despite it being motorway although having dual carriageway
A dual carriageway is where there is a physical feature separating the two opposing carriageways like a barrier or a grass verge, it has nothing to do with whether it has a hard shoulder or not; 50mph in this case. The M40 is national speed limit…so 60mph for your truck. As its already been pointed out, as long as there is at least one lane in either direction and separated by the earlier physical feature…its a dual carriageway and 50mph. Otherwise its a single lane and 40mph.
