M40 this morning

Must have been chaos around rush hour. Went past a crash on the southbound side near oxford that had closed the carriageway, then northbound, a plank or ladder or something was in the middle lane and I counted 9 cars on the hard shoulder all changing their tyres. 3 of them were parked up on the entry slip to the services … why not just continue a few hundred yards and change your tyre in the safety of the services rather than on the slip road hard shoulder? Can they sue anyone?

Ched:

Because in the heat of the moment, they view a £150 alloy rim (and possibly salvageable tyre), as a more valuable assets then their own lives. Either that, or they just don’t know any better…

But if you start down that road, you will never get to the end of why people do what they do…

For instance: Why do you see car drivers who have broken down, blocking a whole lane of traffic? I’m fairly sure that the correct action in this circumstance, is to engage first gear and use your starter motor to pull your car off to the side of the road. However, I doubt that this action is taught by driving instructors, or even in the highway code. (I can’t even remember how I came by this information either, maybe it will come to me later…)

As for driving in the middle lane when the inside lane is clear, don’t even go there… :unamused:
