there seems to be a lot of vehicles parked rather than broken down on the hard shoulder these days. im not sure if its ignorance of the law and purpose of the hard shoulder or if its just utter stupidity
Went past it about 10am and they were just letting traffic through but the tarp was still up, this was all in lane 2 though, hate to say it in no un certain terms but probably where she landed and they didnāt do a very good job in erecting the screen as there was a gap which was clearly visible.

Tragic for the victims family ,but if she was struck on the hard shoulder by a passing truck,i wonder how she ended up in lane 2,i would have thought the body would have come to rest further down on the shoulder??

I have no idea mate, I was flat out and just glanced across as I was passing. Iām pretty certain I am remembering rightly though, Iām sure the tarp was erected in lane 2.
It was only when I read the report on here thatās why I thought it was strange.

I donāt dis-believe you buddy, and having read it again,it does say a car was also involved,so i guess thereās the possibility she was struck twice, what an awful way to go though!

I noticed a āForeignā registered truck āparkedā on the A370 going into Weston Super Mare this morning at 07:00hrs, all nicely coned off.
It was still there at 22:00hrs!
What on earth was that all about?! Not the safest of places to leave a truck. I bet if it had been a UK haulier they would have been towed away and given the bill.
it does seem to be dependant on the local police force. i couldnt get parked for a 45 minute break at clacket lane once (only ever stopped there once) so i pulled up on the hard shoulder at the beginning of the slip road exiting the services and got moved on. up here i see that kind of thing regularly at harthill. also on sliproads joining the M8 and M74 and it doesnt seem to matter who the haulier is. it seems to be common practice now rather than planning a break at a services. im pretty sure a sliproad still comes under motorway regulations and is therefore illegal to park on them other than in an emergency
SO, especially at night when you canāt see too far ahead⦠if there is anything on the hard shoulder, get yourself out into lane 2⦠that way you might just miss whoever is wandering about without a clue as to how fast and close a 44ton truck can beā¦

You can park on the hard shoulder providing you havenāt passed the motorway regulations apply sign (entering slip), or assuming you have passed the end of motorway regulations sign (exit slip). However, itās not recommended and you can still be asked to shift by Mr Plod.
I was getting on the M1 from the 25 clockwise today when I was on a constant bearing with a czech truck joining from the 25 anti clockwise, we ended up parallel cab to cab when there was a truck parked in the hard shoulder with the driver at the back of the flatbed, he then proceeds to walk out into the carriageway to get back to his cab right when me and the Czech are passing.
Of course the horn went on and I saw him turn around in shock with his back against the trailer and I actually saw him ā ā ā ā his stomach in!! unreal, people are far to casual when it comes to the hard shoulder.

Last new years I was driving down the A45 towards the A509 roundabout about 3 in the morning when a truck coming the other way was flashing his headlights like a mad man. Iām so grateful he did because a little further down a bloke was having a heart attack or something in the lay by and was leaning out of his car onto lane one and Iām not sure I would have seen him in time if I wasnāt looking for something.
Also yesterday on the M40 northbound between Banbury and Gaydon there was an old boy on the hard shoulder (no vehicle around) waving traffic on!!! Looked like he wanted to try and cross the carriageway. People are mental.
