M4 J13 wk end summer closures

One for the diary-

Weekend Closures

Due to the specialist working methods and equipment required, including large cranes which will need to sit across all three lanes of the motorway, we will need to close sections of the roundabout over weekend periods and the M4 at night.

From 9pm on the Friday through to 5.30am on the Monday the gyratory sections directly below the M4 bridges at Junction 13 and the A34 north and southbound approaches to the junction will be closed.

In addition, overnight between 9pm and 5.30am, the M4 east and westbound carriageways between the slip roads will be closed. The M4 will remain open during day-time hours (5.30am to 9pm).

During these weekend closure periods traffic movements will be as follows:

Traffic will only be able to travel from the M4 westbound to the A34 southbound and from the M4 eastbound to the A34 northboundTraffic will not be able to travel M4 westbound to A34 northbound, M4 eastbound to A34 southbound, A34 northbound to M4 east and westbound, and A34 southbound to M4 east and westboundAccess to the Moto Chieveley Service Area will be available during the closures using signed diversions on local roads

The gyratory beneath the bridges must be closed due to the high risk of debris falling onto the carriageway below and the need to saw-cut/break-out sections of the deck in advance of lifting operations. There is also a risk of the beams rotating in high winds whilst being lowered by the crane.

The A34 north and southbound approaches have to be closed to prevent non-motorway traffic from being automatically being diverted onto the M4 motorway.
