I’d guess if it wasn’t suitable for your height it would be clearly signed, have u looked on the highways agency website?

M3 to jct3 then take A329 back to M4
where you going from and to ■■
or take M40 from M25 to High Wycombe then A404 to Maidenhead

Nowadays some drivers have to follow the signed diversion, and mustn’t think for themselves, even if it’s a better route.

Your way is what I’d do, after stopping at Beaconsfield for a coffee…
