Why take someone to Tooting? - That’s miles away… Are there not any hospitals in Woking, Leatherhead, or even Guildford?
Owing to continuous cut backs and downgrading of our local hospitals St Georges is just about the only logical choice for major trauma cases in North Surrey which includes the Surrey stretch of the M25 considering Guildford hospital’s catchment area it would never be able to cope even if it’s got the same capabilities as St Georges which is doubtful. The same applies for the residents. The only other main choice is Kingston or St Helier, since the closure of Epsom’s trauma and surgical capabilities, neither of which have St Georges capabilities. All of which means that Surrey’s residents then have to compete with South and South West London’s for the same services. It’s a dangerous nightmare.

The last I heard the reality is that, like Epsom,St Peters is actually just about hanging on to it’s overloaded A and E services. While probably, like Epsom, there’s not much point in having an A and E if you haven’t also got the required specialist surgical backup, intensive care provision and after care to go with it.Which explains why just like road casualties even if you do get taken to either Epsom or St Peters the chances are you’ll then need to be transferred to St Helier or St Georges. Then assuming you make it there in time you then need to remember the catchment area and population levels and resulting loads on those two hospitals which effectively,in addition to looking after their own London populations have to fit in the accident and emergency health requirements of North Surrey too.
As in this example ambulance and paramedic crews wouldn’t want to risk having to take emergencies to St Georges or St Helier instead of Epsom or St Peters assuming Epsom and/or St Peters had the equivalent required provision to deal with the casualties in question. The fact is like all of North Surrey’s residents road accident casualties on the Surrey stretch of the M25 face a dangerous risk in terms of our ( effectively non existent ) local hospital provision here because the government isn’t prepared to fund both London’s ever increasing rate of population growth and the home counties.IE from the government’s point of view it’s a case of either or but not both.
Traffic Rat:
Bazza, No have used only 1 name on multiple forums for many years.
Toby. That will be to do with the 999 system and how it is set up and (I believe) what cell tower your phone is hooked in to. Also what exchanged you get put to, common ones in my area are Bangor, Blackburn and oddly Glasgow exchanges.
Also if at the point of call you don’t have a signal to your network if may show 'Emergency Calls Only" this puts you through the Emergency Roamer system which sometimes means you can be talking to anywhere in the country. Fortunately most police forces use a single system to the incident can be passed electronically.
Welcome to the mad house ratty.
