Part of the Surrey stretch of the M25 was closed after a
mobile crane hit a safety barrier.
The carriageway was closed at 10:15 between Junction 9 at
Leatherhead and Junction 8 at Reigate. Two lanes were re-opened at 11:00.
The Highways Agency has warned drivers to expect “severe delays”
on the anti-clockwise part of the motorway.
The mobile crane will require specialist heavy lifting equipment
to move and recover it. This will arrive at about 20:00 and all
four lanes will be closed again as we attempt to shift the beast.
A diversion has been put in place from junction 10,
rejoining the M25 at Junction 8.
.
.
I came past this about 5 mins after it had happened (0300hrs).
A tesco artic had blocked the hard shoulder and inside lane just before it and two others(1 was a City Link) had blocked three of the four lanes just after it as there was a wheel in lane 2.
Reading the title I thought another one of those cherrypickers had gone over again. Lucky it’s a higher vehicle really, wouldn’t like to be hitting that with anything lower.

Any idea how much that thing weighs?
Got to wonder if crane drivers feel sleepy more often due to the lower speeds they travel.
I’ve got to ask the question why would driving slower make the driver more tired? In my experience there is less stress driving at 50mph, more sleepy? I don’t think so. Regards kevmac47.
