Trailers got a VOR plate on no trailer brakes ?
Its a dropdown sign so would just have opened up during the accident.

From what I have been told, the foreign lorry and car had collision, foreign lorry then stops in live lane instead of pulling onto hard shoulder. Fed Ex hits it.
Foreign driver at blame for stopping in live lane?
Fed Ex driver at blame for not spotting obstruction?
In my experience, a large number, not all, foreign drivers are a danger on our roads. Before anyone calls me racist, so are some UK drivers, but not as many as foreign. They regularly drive over hours, over weight, poorly maintained. You just need to follow Police media news feeds and Traffic cops etc to see how common it is.

Collision avoidance system…Not fitted?
Not working properly?
Switched off?
Unable to stop the vehicle in the distance given?
Looks like an old square Axor to me, so no auto braking system.
If Fedex continue with this run of bad smashes i wonder if they might let a contractor take over the trunking.

Or just employ decent drivers, oh there aren’t any !!

The only collision avoidance system, I know of is the MK1 eyeball, so are you implying that fed-ex was asleep.
I say it every time. When you see how close drivers go to each other it’s no wonder this has happened and will happen again, and again, and again and again. For as long a drivers can’t understand that following the truck in front from a few feet away rather than your actual stopping distance your in danger of this exact thing happening. And don’t give me that ■■■■■■■■ about closing the gap so a car can’t dive in. If your driving with your correct distance from the vehicle in front and a car goes in the gap then either increase your gap or move out to overtake. It may add a few minutes to your day having to do that every now and again but is it safer? Most definitely.
You watch how close they are and if the one in front slams on the one that’s following won’t even get through the thinking distance before they hit never mind then touch the brake pedal.

No…
I’m not implying he was asleep. For collision avoidance system read AEBS or EBS or what ever Mercedes call their system. My apologies for any confusion. As Juddian points out it’s possibly the older style cab that won’t have any auto-braking system fitted.

Very well said and oh so very true. Someone on here the other day was trying to tell me you can’t keep a safe distance all the time. I would say he or she has a high probability of being one of the next statistics. Mind you some never leave a proper gap when following other vehicles anytime.
Fedex ground over here are all contractor units and to be honest a danger to one and all! ,most big accidents involve a Fedexground flier…winter time seems worse for them (to fast and losing it in snow /whiteouts.running full chat into other peoples accidents). a company you want in front of you ,way in front!
This constant tailgating by lorries is getting to be a bad joke now, it’s one of the reasons i’ve cut down my cruising speed because i just don’t want to be involved with them, so prefer to take my time in the inside lane and keeping several mph in hand if i come up behind a Tesco artic doing a rolling roadblock.
The lack of lorries is also one of the reasons i prefer weekend working now.
Our industry had better get it’s own act in order, and i don’t mean more monitoring/spyware ■■■■■■■■ to keep more layers of trainers/admin shiny hivis types in non jobs, i mean if lorry drivers don’t start acting sharp, we’ll all be suffering the knee jerk reactions once some parliamentarian greasy pole climber spots a way to make a name for themselves by coming up with one size fits all measures to curb the idiots.

Would you really trust this system because I certainly don’t, it may be of some help but the amount of times it see’s things that aren’t there is somewhat shocking and dangerous in my opinion.

Good grief…
No. I still rely on the Mk1 eyeball (although I have upgraded to the Mk2 with contact lenses) to spot large stationary things in front of me. No amount of computer/lazer/radar jiggerypokery will replace my right boot standing on brake pedal.

UPDATE: A man has been reported for process following a road traffic collision on the #M11 on Friday, January 26.
We received reports around 5.20am that a white Mercedes lorry had been in collision with a grey Volvo lorry between junctions seven and eight on the northbound carriageway.
The Volvo had stopped after it had been involved in an non-injury collision with a black Ford Galaxy car.
Whilst the lorry driver requested assistance, a white Mercedes lorry collided with the Volvo.
Officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and the driver of the Mercedes, a man in his 40s from Milton Keynes, was taken to hospital and remains in a life-threatening condition.
The Volvo lorry driver, a 45-year-old man from Romania, was arrested at the scene and following enquiries was later reported for driving without due care and attention and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

Again, bang on. I’ve taken to driving doing a lap of service areas when I get caught up in a gaggle of tailgating heroes. It’s just easier to let the helmets get on with it and chill out for a few minutes. Works on the tube as well, train comes in and people are falling over each other to get on it. If you wait a few minutes for the next one, it’s usually half empty!

Bloody hell, that has a horrible ring of deja vu to it.

That is it…100% too many people and not enough room.
Doesn’t it just?
Let’s hope the Fedex driver makes it.
