M1 South jct19-16

Does anyone ever check this section of Tarmac? It’s 50mph with narrow lanes and most trucks run along the hard shoulder.
Some of them potholes and road damage is just dangerous, won’t be long before someone bounces off the carriageway!

and a claim will be made

so long as whoever owns the road is notified, then 24 hours later, they are liable for a damage claim, council or otherwise…if they haven’t been notified, then they have a cop out clause…if your a trunker, then phone them up and wreck the truck the next day…

Trunk every night for fedex, think already cracked a windscreen on a new actros, but can’t prove that, bottom of screen wasn’t cracked when I left stoke

On this section with the roadworks. Does anyone else get completely blinded by the spotlights that are positioned just before the average speed cameras. ?

That seems to be prevalent at every roadworks now, bloody annoying and more than a little dangerous too. I’m sick of getting into ■■■■■■■ contests with the numpty heading towards me on main beam with me sat with mine on thinking “he’ll give in before I do” only to find it’s a one billion gigawatt light tower!

I just give in with the numpties on full beam. I won’t lower my standards. And come down to thier level.
I recon them spotlights are to get a good picture of the person driving and doesn’t put the wifes name on the ticket when it comes through. As a very prominent politician found out to his cost recently.

I guess hard shoulders were never designed or built to the same spec as the running lanes

It’s the same on the M62-M60 were the roadworks are. I was coming eastbound and between Bolton and Rochdale the road surface in the middle lane was appalling with big chunks missing, every time I went over one it didn’t half shake the truck so wouldn’t like to think what it’d do to a car.
Mind you the snow probably had somthing to do with it.

They don’t give a Zb because they want us all to drive slower…

Use this stretch of the M62 every night they have moved the lanes over by about two feet resulting in your offside wheels running over the old cats eye holes.

This has resulted in sections of tarmac breaking up about a foot square, its bad enough in a truck god knows what will happen if a motor cyclist hits these series of holes which stretch for about two miles.

As regards the M1 between Jnc 19 and 16 the hard shoulder is subsiding in places on the near side resulting in you being flung over to the left so you need your wits about you.

The Highways Agency certainly have a lot to answer for!!

When the M1 was being widened in the J 10 area, northbound involved running on the hardshoulder in a lorry. The lane was appalling, it was breaking up, kerbs from the bridge parapets protruding into the carriageway, and a 10 foot drop into the fields below. I can’t recall clearly now, but I either used to run in the lane to my offside instead ( I certainly did that on the M25 north in the J 29 area) or alternatively if it was a 6’6" on my offside; blocked both lanes by straddling the lane marking. I am not ending up dead in a wrecked cab down the bank m’lud because highways won’t upgrade the hard shoulder to make it safe for lorries before they commence other lane work.

came back that way this morning s/b just after Watford Gap services sections of the hard shoulder are appalling potholes… large sections missing certainly need to take extra care.

ys itas realy bad this morning in the end i went into lane 2 ,i am not putting other people in danger and also my job for smashing up the truck,
i did try and stay in lane one but after hitting a huge potthole and it shook the truck to bits i thourt i will have to use lane 2 i also found other lorry drivers got abit to close for comfort ,most can see whats going on and give a wide birth but i am getting allot of drivers once they have cleared there cab they close the gap and leve me trying my hardest to wrestle with the truck to keep it in the lanes ,with a single deck its not so bad but a heave double deck its a nightmere ! :imp:
i would of thourt if you had a car with alloys this would damage them badly ! :unamused: mind you most cars dont go in lane 1 :unamused:

wonder why they have to have the lanes like this for over 14 miles why cant they just close it off as they do the repairs and move down as they go! :unamused:

So let’s hear what TNUK and the trade press are doing about highlighting the issue of shoving the lorries off onto the hardshoulder into too-narrow collapsing lanes during roadworks. It’s not as if these are isolated or recent instances, it has been going on for a long time and seems to be standard practice. It needs to stop immediately.

Oh boy. Cue the next 4 pages of fierce and irrelevant bickering.

They are nowadays but when constructed back in the year dot they were not. Most will have been rebuilt to modern spec now with widening, resurfacing etc.
