M1 J20 to J21 closed

Womble vehicle with trailer just turned up with block out fencing so someone has died it seems.

Someone’s not going home for whatever reason. RIP.

Whatever the cause not nice to hear.

Just spoken to one of our drivers who is further back than me now I found out he’s there. He’s just been turned round and taken off at J20 so looks like we will get turned around and taken off the motorway.

AA truck just come out of accident scene down the hard shoulder with a car on the back no obvious damage from what I could see.

I passed the scene southbound just after 5. Nothing to see other than flashing lights and a couple cars with hazards on in hard shoulder. Trucks being turned and escorted back by Hato.

Suicide apparently according to highways. Just done a u turn and waiting to be led in a convoy off the motorway. In front of a truck too. Poor driver. Thoughts go out to the truck driver involved.

Not another one…

Well that’s what they were telling us when they turned us round and lined us up in a convoy.

But it seems odd that possibly before they even started tubing traffic around an AA recovery truck came through the cordon and off southbound on the hard shoulder with a car on it. Surely if that was trapped traffic at the scene then it would have been dealt with at the same time as we were.

Maybe reading too much into it I guess.

I passed it at 03:45ish going S/B when there was only 1 set of blues flashing. Despite the darkness, my many years of Police recovery work & being a senior associate founding member of TNUK CSI I couldn’t see an immediate reason why I should avoid it on the way back.

most likely the dead guys car or a car that hit the poor bugger after the truck.

According to the local News, it was a woman who had been reported walking on the Motorway. She was reportedly hit by a Peugeot van.

Stupid game played, stupid prize won.

Well the update to this was I ended up on 14.75 hr shift. Making it back to the yard.

It seems a woman decided to commit suicide on the motorway. Was hit by a Peugeot van and possibly multiple other vehicles after.

It appears the police had dealings with her in the hours preceeding this so have referred themselves to the IOPC.

Possibly they could have done more to stop the chance of this happening in the first place.

This does beg the question, if they believe she may have been suicidal, and she was walking on a motorway and got hit what else is there to really understand?

I feel sorry for everyone involved but why is there such a need to close the motorway for so long and do a massive investigation. It costs the economy millions of pounds and lost time not to mention the manpower from the emergency services being ■■■■■■■ on site too.

because she topped herself after being involved with plod, then they will make the biggest moutain out of a molehill and milk it to death.
thereafter as far as plod is concenred itl all die down after being buried in the usual pass the buck, lessons have been learned pile of ■■■ covering and waffle.
they obviously didnt learn much from the other time it made the news.
the other lesson learned is deciding on just how apparantly useless wombles and police wifeys are.
its been on here before, but good enough for another peek.

the best bits are on the top link, and the full 45 mins on the lower one.

Being “■■■■■■■” means detailing the scene in an attempt to piece together the events that lead to a woman losing her life, through accident or otherwise.

Having lost a family member in an RTA I can perhaps only speak for myself but I found a large part if he ing able to deal with loss came from knowing what had happened. All of a sudden there was no longer a “why” or “what if” or a “how” due to the investigation answering all of those questions.

It’s mainly why I’m not arsed about roads being closed for investigation works. At the end of the day you and everyone else inconvenienced got home while one person didn’t which was perhaps her choice on this one but often there’s someone who doesn’t make it home through pure accident.

P.S I’m not having a go, I’m just saying they’re just doing their job basically.

Well said toonsy.

This is the same or worse than the daily mail lot moaning when a truck driver dies.

It would be very easy to jump to a conclusion and say, “Clearly suicidal - quick statement off the poor sod(s) who hit her - bag up the remains, hose down the road and get that Motorway open as we don’t want to inconvenience the travelling public. Job Done.” I’m sure all those who ended up sat in the queues for hours would prefer that. But in this country we generally regard an unexpected death as being a Very Serious Matter, and if during the Post Mortem a day or so later the pathologist were to discover that the cause of death was actually say, a stab wound it’s a bit late to go examining the scene for evidence that might lead to her attacker.

I am reminded of the fairly recent case where a bloke was found dead in his garden. The first Police on the scene were quick to take the guidance of the paramedics who opined that his death was a result of the very recent heart surgery he had undergone and dealt with it as a routine “sudden death”. It was only during the Post Mortem that it was discovered he had been shot…

Not so recent, but I am also reminded of a case that I was involved in in the mid 90s. Mangled body of a ■■■ worker found on the railway line, having been run over by a couple of trains. It would have been easy enough to dismiss it as a suicide by a crack head (which indeed was the general feeling among many at the time). There was nothing to identify the scene of any crime, and nothing to suggest a cause of death other than “being hit by a train (or trains).” It was a couple of weeks later that a uniform PC doing mundane follow-up enquiries regarding a lorry driver using a tax disc from his employer’s truck in his own car turned up some information that eventually led to said lorry driver being convicted for the poor woman’s murder. Some would possibly call it “milking it” - I think of it as proper police work.

The scene of any fatac is indeed treated as a murder scene & the evidence is gathered accordingly. IME it can take between 4hrs & 6hrs but if it happens during darkness they usually like a couple of hours daylight.

They miss NOTHING.

Maybe it’s just a different Outlook from different perspectives I guess.

I get your not having a pop as well.

It’s just a case of thinking out loud and possibly not understanding the full reasons why it takes so long.
