Thursday 26/11/15-

Hoo ‘Bloody’ Ray !
The cones, Thin Lanes & 50 mph speed limit between Catthorpe & 16 have all gone, perhaps we can get on with our jobs now !

Cones don’t disappear mate, they just get reallocated!

Won’t the gas, electric and water mob come out one after the other and dig it all up again ?

Conor:
Don’t celebrate too soon. They’re due to be back soon for the “M1 19-16 All Lane Running Smart Motorway” upgrade so we’ll maybe get a couple of months off and then they’re back again for another 18 months.

Quite why it couldn’t have all been done at the same time I don’t know. In a few months they’re going to take up all the road markings they’ve just put down, pay a company to hire out cones etc again.

Am I right in thinking Catthorpe to 16 is the 27 miles of roadworks? And if they are starting doing the smart motorway in a couple of months what have they been doing with them the last few months? I thought the current set of roadworks was for the smart motorway?!?! Normally I would figure this out myself by looking what the workmen are doing while sat in traffic except I don’t really recall seeing anyone there whenever I have been past!!

Been down this morning, passed a line of cars doing about 45mph! I was even shocked that they was in the inside lane aswell

Are the roadworks coming to the M5 south bound soon around Jcn 5?

I’ve noticed this too over the last week, average speed cameras have gone back up (but not yet operational), am I right in thinking that stretch of motorway (think it was roughly J5-J3) was down to 50 for about a year while they did the concrete central res, if so why did they not do this ‘new’ work then? Or have they found crisp packets and other rubbish in the concrete like they did with the M1. Absolute farce, only in England do we just accept this level of unnecessary interruption and buffoonery.

While I’m on the subject, anyone any idea when the M6 J11-13 is actually going to be finished? This is getting tedious in the extreme, just finish the god-■■■■ thing!!

Just been doing a bit of investigation work and the M6 10a-13 should be completed by now as Highways England give the finish date as 'Autumn 2015". £87.5 million pounds is the cost of this upgrade, all that money just so they can have us randomly slowing down to 50 in the middle of the night due to non-existent ‘congestion’ and occasionally put ‘Congestion, use hard shoulder’ on the gantries, which absolutely everyone ignores (including HGV drivers). However, this pales into insignificance against the cost and disruption that will be M6 J19-16 when that starts in January. On a Friday afternoon especially this is one of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country, it is going to be absolute carnage when it stars and you start getting breakdowns etc in there. Three years and a staggering £274 million is the cost of this, I can hardly wait, and I dare say the lost hours/wasted fuel caused by us all stuck in it every day will probably run into the billions.

Why do have roadworks back again from the M18 to Tinsley? This is the 3rd time in the past year or so that this section has been coned without anything happening and nothing seems to be happening on the other side from Tinsley to 36 either.

Cone storage!

There is something happening - they’re practising putting out and removing cones (got to train them to sprint across the motorway with the signs)!

Must admit, I quite like 50mph roadworks on the motorway.
It seems the traffic flows alot smoother.
