I bet she dropped her coffee.

Nah, too busy texting… :unamused:

Which most of the time is related to Alzheimer’s/Dimentia… Mrs deals with sufferers all day long and many still drive, even though they need/should really own up and hand there license in…but they don’t…hardly something to laugh about

truckyboy, to clarify I mean an hours assessment for people - not as in a test but a bill of health if you like from someone qualified (even if they give tips on bad habits and how to avoid them etc.) I am not looking for people being banned from driving but more a way of improving the standards and maybe preventing things like this happening. if you actually did pass a test at 80 years old how much have modern vehicles and the roads changed?

The IAM offers an ‘elderly drivers assessment’ for over 70s, this is an hour’s drive observed by an ex traffic cop or similarly qualified person, only costs £25, I guess many driving instructors would be willing to do an hour’s observation and comment - only problem is convincing 70 year olds that it is a good idea!

Caused some right chaos for a lot of drivers, came through about an hour ago, tibshelf and trowel was rammed, with about 20 trucks parked up on the hard shoulder for the night near trowel

It’s true that some oldies are a menace, but so are some youngsters. I’m 68 and like truckyboy, I can still drive ok, have my wits about me, know and obey the road rules and spend a fair bit of my driving time thinking for others that have the cheek to call themselves drivers that are half my age, and some are driving semis and B doubles ! I’m a type 2 diabetic and keep the meds going and don’t go too long without eating, but some people don’t play ball; others are genuinely taken by surprise and pass out. There’s a lot of young people with diabetes or other conditions as well; there are plenty that still drive when they’re ■■■■■■ or off the planet on drugs. So just because the media have a fit when an oldie has a prang, it doesn’t mean everyone else is perfect.

Having said that, I wouldn’t mind going for an assessment every year as long as everyone else did. I do know that if this happened on Bribie Island, there wouldn’t be many cars on the road, not so much that some of the oldies have lost it, but more because I reckon they could never drive in the first place!!!

Right I’m off to take me pills now.

make it a requirement to get a years extension on your licence £25 isn’t much for freedom.

I was lucky. Coming from Howden and going down to Northampton I just nipped down the A1 and A46 to come back on the M1 at Leicester. Judging by how busy it was for 7pm, a fair few others had the same idea. Was a nice clean run and only added 5 minutes to the journey.

Be careful what you wish for, next thing it’ll be compulsory retesting of lorry drivers, and given the idiocy of some i’m only surprised it hasn’t come yet, dunno how many attempts it would take me to pass again with coming up to 40 years of bad habits to eradicate… :open_mouth:

DVSA type retesting is not necessary but compulsory periodic general safe driving assessments are really a must for all drivers as well as their GPs signing off that they are generally medically fit to drive

That`s about right for a Taxi in Derby nowadays, we had one the other weekend, who couldn’t even use a satnav properly :open_mouth:

And, his understanding of Engleeeesh was zero, but they do know how to press the panic button :unamused:

But, you try complaining to the council regarding the driving standards, or, about aggressive behaviour towards lone females, and its a closed shop :unamused:

Any ideas why ?

haha am not really an aggressive person but this really pushed my buttons and it very nearly ended up at the end of your suggestions, even more so at the end when he point blank refused to admit he had ripped me off, luckily I kept my head just.

Private hire don’t have to use the councils tariff, hackneys do. So he can do what he wants. Supply and demand, if there was another 50 taxis parked up I guess it wouldn’t av been so much.

Dont they still need a meter ? If the meter goes down on a hackney they cant run IIRC ?..I know this ■■■■ was a PH, but they still have to trade within the law :bulb:

Getting back on topic should doctors report drivers to dvla to have them taken off the road. I no a old man of 81 who went to the doctor about 4 years ago and got told he should stop driving but hasn’t done because its down to him.
