Hello all. I worked for m Elliotts and Sons way back in 1987, it was my first hgv driving job. Don elliott in the office with George transport manager. The 2 brothers in the garage jonh cant remember the other name. My first truck was a MAN 240 reg BJT 41T after around 2 years or so we got a load of old ish trucks from bristol. They were painted mine was C804 AWS. I have pics at my mums house in Bournemouth, i will post them asap. The old forden was a bit before my time but they converted one into a breakdown truck whitch i drove a number of times to pick up the old 240’s that used to breakdown all the time. Cant remember the name of the driver The Baron. They bought 2 or 3 D reg and 2 or 3 E reg trucks. As i say cant remember who drove the The Baron but i can still see them in my memories. I’ve seen a pic with The warrior that was barry’s truck the king of the tanks. Mine was thor!

Seems it was the drivers fault, again. or it seems they had no one else to blame.

Didnt they try to get the directors or something for this.? We had the lad who was driving working for us for a little while, but he has gone now . I know he did have time off to go to court a while ago but am not aware of the outcome.
The story i heard was that it was caused by a taxi making a rapid last second move across infront of the transporter to get onto the other motorway…
News item says it was a car hitting the rear of the trailer ■■?
i worked for don elliott in the early 90’s. the company was owned by john carters by then, they went belly upim 94-95 and phc took all the steel work in house. elliott joined forces with dave sargeant to form elliott sargeant. that has now gone belly up as well. they were exhonerated in the leicestershire tank crash affair but it came with heavy price. ive got some old photos somewhere, i’ll dig them out and have a go at scanning
i think i have more in the loft, i will try and dig them out at the weekend[/img]
thanks yella, thats the elliots i was thinking of,
So, 5 men travelling in a Honda Civic, ( small hatchback) hits a truck in the rear carrying 3 tanks ( 35 ton gross ? ) and the tanks fall off !!
If I’ve got that right, there must be something I’ve missed ■■?
Were the 5 men in the Civic, doesn’t make it clear, or were they in different vehicles that got involved after the crash ?
I can’t see how a Civic hitting the truck in the rear, could cause that amount of damage.
would love to see some more pics please. Coming from Weymouth used to see the trucks all the time when passing through Poole and Ringwood on the way to join the motorway, would be nice to rekindle the memories!
As for Elliot Sergeant, look on the posting by Euromat about Russia, he spotted an ex ES MAN in Russia and took a pic.
Would also like to see some pics of HJ Cutler, and Comptons of Poole as I never got to take any pics.
good call dieselcowboy, hj cutler, theres a blast from the past…,
I think Cutler,s were taken over by Fergusons.
