Lyon - advice please

Hi All.
I have to go to Lyon in a couple of weeks in my car.

Can any- one tell me the best route ?

Or the quickest route ?

I was told to-day that it’s about 400 miles from Calais to Lyon :open_mouth:

It is neither busines or pleasure, I will be collecting a sick relative who has to go to Bideford in Devon.

Is the Tunnel the cheapest or a ferry ?

Cheers,

NIALL.

My autoroute reckon it about 475miles Calais to Lyon. Which would seem about right as I estimate 10 hours for the section in the truck.

I don’t know what’s cheaper, but as for route I normally go Calais, Reims, Troyes, Dijon, Lyon. More experienced driver might have a better route.

Don’t know how long you are thinking of taking, especially on the way back with a sick relative in the car, but there are plenty of hotels on the way, either on the services or very near. I can get you details of the ones we use.

i would go out Dover and return to Portsmouth

Or for nearer Devon ,Condor Ferries are operating St Malo to Weymouth on Monday and Friday during the winter

Thanks for all the replies folks.

I will let you know what happens.
The Weymouth route sounds favourite as does the Portsmouth one.

The first route from England to France that normally springs to mind is Dover/Calais.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers,

NIALL.
