Lunch break & tacho break, Rog?

ERFMarc:
Is it possible to raise your concerns to head office or even just print off a set of regs and give it to this plank? Or speak to the company CPC holder (providing of course your not on restricted o-licence and don’t require one - if that loophole still applies?)

It’s funny how when I read your first paragraph I thought you must work for a merchant. Even before I saw mentions of HIAB work.

No CPC Holder, Restricted licence. No loophole. I imagine there is someone who purchases trucks and deals with road tax, operator licencing and insurance. Maybe a letter to them may help, or possibly make things worse.

Luckily for Kemaro he has somehow managed to work with this plank for over 3 years, so has some protection. I would really just dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s for VOSA, H&S etc, and just wait for this bloke to screw up properly, that is providing he doesn’t kill someone first.

I asked the question of VOSA recently about any plans to bring in a qualified transport manager to own account operations. At that time I was told there are no plans to do this, it is about time they looked at it again in my opinion. Look at any scaffolders lorry, skip lorry, road maintenance lorry and the dashboard is piled high with coffee cups, old newspapers and McDonalds wrappers, the trucks never get washed, there is likely to be a fuel cap missing and damage doesn’t get repaired.

Breakfast AND brunch?
Proper lorry driver!

Why of course, need to fit as many meals a day in as one can!

It is definitely time to be getting out of my current employment, on Thursday the plank that was my previous manager & now has his extra stripe as area manager was covering the sales desk in our yard , he didn’t speak to me so i didn’t speak to him , simple … it was a busy day , I got through 14 drops in the lorry & 5 in the van & had an incident where I got stuck in a gully but eventualy got out, informed the new manager straight away so he was aware that I was running behind .

Friday morning the new manager had a call from the boss asking if everything was ok with me and was there any issues that needed addressing because the area manager had been on the phone & told him that he felt I was taking to long & dragging the job out & hanging about in the yard , he said he felt I was undermining the new guys authority & taking the pi55 basically in how long i take to do deliveries, my new manager stood up for me & said that he has no problems with how I do my job & he can’t ask anymore off me really, he did say that he feels there is an issue with the area manager & me & would like them to step in & sort it out so we shall what Monday brings, I am growing tired of all the pettyness now though & just want out & as soon as there is something I will be off.

“Dragging the job out” AND “hanging about in the yard”? You’d surely be at work a very long time if both those applied, in extremis. Sorry it’s come to that (time to go); remember. nothing lasts forever, it might be a short time before he leaves. If you really can’t see him leaving, then take him with you, so to speak, when you go.

Would be a shame to leave now you have a new manager that clearly supports you. Doesnt sound all that bad to me but im not in your position so could be completely different to the way it comes across, although i havnt worked for the worse i do know what its like to work for horrible people and it doesnt seem like your anywhere near that point.
