Is there any pics of Lucas Artics on here , talking of the early eighties .
I was a young lad working at a " Lucas Agency" and we had a weekly delivery from a chap called Arthur , who was the shop steward , I still dont have any idea what this was, but I guessed it was something to do with the unions at the time… The chap spured me on to do a class 1 as I was allowed to shunt the truck all of about 5 foot backwards and forwards when I was about 14 , (No elf an safty then lol) A Seddon …
Well that was it I wanted an HGV licence,
Alas that was to be but not till 1990…(Id found girls) which seem more interesting than a class one at the time…
Anyhow sorry I ve gone way off topic , what was it that got you on the hgv driving…and I d love to see some Lucas HGV pics…
So no pics of the old Lucas arctics ? I think FedEx stated doing traction for them late eighties (Sometimes white units with the green Lucas trailer.)…
IIRC they had a large fleet of L10 Bedford TM’s around that time ? When they stopped doing transport inhouse didn’t Swifts take some of it over ? - Sure i remember Swift liveried Daf CF’s
lucas did what hundreds of other manufacturers have done over the last 20 years or so and now have their goods made in east Europe and china.another great british firm to be proud of.in the mid 90s they closed lucas rists wiring in Accrington with 90 days notice and moved practically lock stock and barrel that operation after first milking the pension fund profits,to Rumania.sad world.
