If I set up a limited company, but don’t use it straight away, how do I show that I’m nit using it?
Basically I’m in full time employment, but looking for some occasional shifts which I would want to put through the ltd company.

Did this once, called companies house to say it wa not trading, they listed it as dormant.
You may have to do this each year though.
As stated you put the Co into dormant status, you can also do this online or download the form and post/email it off. However once you start trading (ie: do the odd shift) you have to notify HMRC the date of come commencement of trading.
I initially did it when I setup the company, but took several weeks to finally get everything in place.
As It’s not the Hokey Cokey, you can’t exactly go in, out and shake it all about here & there and put it back in dormant status the following week. Ideally once forward is engaged, there’s no reverse, just the off switch is left …
As above, I set up my limited company in December 2011, registered it as dormant, and started trading in July 2012.
im looking at doing this getting it set up and registered for flat rate vat but im not exactly sure when im gona start as got few things going on at home but i want it set up ready …and get business account set up …especially want my vat number as i dont want to be chasing vat thats owed …so im right in thinking you just have to ring up companies house and state that the company is not trading
What type of Insurance would a LTD company need when dealing direct to customers ie not through a agency, for things like damage to cargo whilst in your care.

None. You have a contract with the client and in it a clause that states that your company is not liable for any costs or losses arising from any actions from its employees or representatives and also another stating that their insurance must cover you which for virtually every haulier it will as policies for vehicles are usually “any employee or anyone acting on the orders of the policyholder” any driver kind of cover.
how do you pay your self a wage and how do you oay tax in your personal wage

Only just started ltd company but as far as i understand it you pay yourself the minimum wage so there’s no tax or Ni to pay & then pay yourself a dividend which is subject to income tax but not Ni.
