Self employed lads what does it say on your vat registration certificates for nature of business
I put ‘Freight transport by road’ and it is fine. This is only for statistics.

Not if you’re using the flat VAT scheme. Lets put it this way, pretty much everyone on here using it isn’t using the correct category. They’re all putting down transport when they’re operating their Ltd Company as a personal service company to avoid IR35. What they should be putting down is business services. The fact they provide a driver is irrelevant, they’re not running a transport company but an employment agency. The category they use covers transport or storage, including couriers, freight, removals and taxis not providing a service to a business.
Good news for them is there’s only a 2% difference so when HMRC catch up to it all the bill they get won’t be that huge.

Trade classification (SIC code): 49410 Business activity description: Freight transport by road
If you mean it is wrong one, there is an opportunity to change the category on HMRC website. Not a problem. You still can make changes.

Hi mk7fiesta
Do you have an accountant if so he should be able to sort it all out for you, but if you are like me & only intend to use an accountant at the end of the year for final submission of your accounts you should be able to fined registration for vat on your HMRC home page.
Which you would have got when registering for corporation tax along with the option to run your payroll it can all be done from your HMRC login page.
Regards,
Jeff.
PS. if in doubt take professional advice.
