Low speed mode in Actros?

Is there an equivalent to the Daf “tortoise” gear mode on an auto box Actros? Had a hired one yesterday and tried all manner of button/stalk presses but couldn’t find it.

We’ve got the same unit for another week or two so I’ll probably get lumbered with it again at some point.

Put it in manual mode, then select the lowest gear. Best you’re going to get.

If you want low speed mode, try driving it up a hill even a tortoise will overtake you! :imp:

To be fair to it, it seemed no worse than our fleet-spec MAN 440s in that respect. Not that that says a lot.

OK - that tells me the thing has “crawler mode” and tells me how to deactivate it. But not how to activate it in the first place…

I think the question is moot though, as the lorry in question has been taken to another depot to be used on shunting duties.

Stick it in drive, release handbrake, DON’T accelerate. ‘Crawler mode’ will activate and the vehicle will start crawling forward. Manually flick gears up to go a bit faster, down to go slower.

It does it in my 2020 Actros, personally i just thought it was ‘creep’ that some auto-boxes are prone to, but apparently it’s a feature :question: :laughing:

Aha! That explains why I couldn’t find a switch or button press to activate it!
