Low loader carting dump truck out of Felixstowe

any of the learned on here got the lowdown on dirt/stones dropping onto the road n pinging up ? im asking cos after several near misses [from stones dropping off diggers being towed ] in recent months, today i got my windscreen broke by stones bouncing off a big dumptruck being towed on a lowloader.
if you cart these around are you required by law to brush the tyres/tracks clean before you head off?

course im mad ,mad cos i didnt note the firm tho i bleve was a red volvo cab and dumptruck yellowey brown with a big “w” on its side.

My attitude was generally sweep the bed, drive the thing on, knock any bits off the bed, deliver said vehicle, then sweep the bed before driving off.

So no I never had a jet wash to hand to start cleaning machines.

Red Volvo hmm
Kings heavy haulage have red volvos. Just saying

Pretty sure that Plod, backed up by CandU regs would have no hesitation in issuing a summons for insecure load in a case like this.
The onus is very firmly on the driver and operator of every goods vehicle to ensure that no part of their vehicle and/or its load can cause nuisance or danger to other road users.
Without a dashcam or very good witnesses however, and thereby having a means of proving that the stone had fallen from the vehicle, and not simply been kicked up by the vehicle from the road the chances of any action being taken are slim.

Had the same stone come up and broken as much as a reflector on a bicycle however, the unfortunate driver would be bending down for the soap, as a guest of her Maj, till the end of time

I am a keen cyclist bobbya, However I do like to think of myself as courteous and some cyclists infuriate me too.

Yes things should be clean, when hauling plant dirt will generally loosen and drop of in transit. Plant is almost never “clean”. Unless new.

Gravel rash can be best avoided/minimized by leaving a nice gap between yourselfs and those infront of you.

I do not believe for one second you are a cyclist.

I am a cyclist bobbya, have been for years, Mrs tramp used to race in her younger days and she got me into it. I don’t ace but we go all over the world on cycling holidays touring. We recently did a tour in India last year, we are booking a Thailand cycle tour for this year. Not into the commuting side of cycling but for fitness and pleasure.

I could do that bobbya, I have loads of pics of us cycling all over the world, not through vanity of course but for the interest of the places that we visit

The topic is about crap falling off lorries not UKtramp’s cycling habits.

If you have nothing to say that’s vaguely on topic then feel free to move on.

Excellent.

see palnt hauled off sites all time with dirt and alsorts hanging off u think they go round knock it off or get it washed off before leaving these sites.most sites have a jetwash team now at the gate to wash all dirt off before u leave.so why not get them to clean it off before leaving.
