For a man of a certain age, mine, Louise Mensch is a breath of fresh air, a chick flick novelist, a ■■■■ and married to a rock band manager. She is also a Conservative MP for Corby, or she is at the moment until she stands down to “spend more time with her family.”
Among all the great news about the Olympics I spotted this snippet and smiled at the comparison.
There is a good deal of rubbish talked about this. Being a good MP, woman or man, and representing a constituency will always involve considerable time spent away from family. Complaining about it is like a long-distance lorry-driver moaning that work seems to require a lot of driving.

As for the Olympics.
Do you think the idea of chucking a metal frisbee around is a sport?

this woman was the worst mp corby has ever had, glad to see the back of her as she clears off to america. she did nothing for her constituents whatsoever.all she wanted to do was be on tv,in the papers all the time . she was never hardly in her constituency, and she has only resigned cos she knew she wasnt up to the job.
wheel nut had to smile to at the snippet you found

Louise Mensch is not my MP , but she is a breath of fresh air when you think of the alternatives.

Me I would always vote for the ■■■■

have to say your right on this one wheel nut
I’ve no idea what she’s been like as an MP but always liked her style.
She was good for a ribbing on Have I Got News For You.
As it happens,Ann Widdicombe was also good on the telly. It’s not always what they say or which
party they support, but how they put their case.
Don’t that Anne widdicombe have her own game show now clever knobs somethink along them lines

Couldn’t agree more with this. One of my favourite people to listen to is Tony Benn - politically we’re a long way apart, but I have the greatest respect & admiration for his commitment, his eruditeness (erudity?), his passion, honesty etc. Probably one of the greatest politicians ever - I’d probably never vote for him though.

Scaniason, I was trying to think of an example and you’ve done it well.

Mine too. I love listening to the Benn Tapes.
In fact I have recently started following Dennis Skinner and John Prescot on Twitter, not for their political views, but for their witty banter
To add to this…
I listened to an interview with Sir John Major by Simon Mayo this evening.
What a thoroughly interesting bloke and so wise too.
He’s in the ‘statesman’ bracket along with Tony Benn.
I thought that John Major was a clever chap though a bit too fond of a Currie.

The most under-rated of all PM’s in my view. To follow on from the Mrs Thatcher and win the next election against all the odds is one thing - to last 5 years with a small majority with not only half your party against you but a third of your cabinet and at the same time turn a recession around is something else, compounded by the decision by the following Labour government to stick to the Major governments spending criteria from 1997 - 1999.
Grey man, yes - wise man, definitely!
