Came around the top of the M25 this Afternoon in the car, Without a camera !
De Rooys had a lot of deliveries of new Renault trucks on their trailers, and i must say even though I am a Volvo man the new 6x2 units looked good in the flesh, Even the one in the bright kermit the frog green colour.
The company i work for have just got two new Renault Premiums 460.Every night trunker avoids them if possible, due to us carrying 20-24 tonne loads and the lift axle wheels not turning when you turn the steering wheel. It can feel quite hairy when taking a bend at speed. It feels like the trailer is gonna fly off unit.Gear box is excellent though, thanks to volvo.
I look forward to seeing one in the flesh, I’d be pushing it 4 a test drive…
Used to work for a firm with Renault premiums and midlums. The gearboxes on the new ones were the best out of all I’ve driven. We had a Magnum demonstrator and it was a great truck - if you’re tramping for a couple of weeks at a time and mainly on motorways.
No good for day work or around town.

No such issues here pulling 26 tonne of mags nor a fully loaded reefer, they handle just fine. Perhaps your night trunkers should drive at a speed appropriate for the load instead of like F1 drivers on a race track?
The Volvo’s mid lift since the mid 90s at least has never steered either but I’ve never heard anyone complaining?

Im sure the volvos i drove at Viamaster had middle axle steering, though i stand to be corrected on that one.
Not just our night drivers who have complained. The two who use the renaults on days are both unhappy with them compared to the Dafs XF we use.Sure youre not jealous cos yours only do 52, so we fly past you up and down the M1 everyday?

No steering from the mid lift on those FHs. The only problem with the Renault’s is the person sat in the chair.
And why would I be jealous over how fast a given truck will travel at? I charge by the hour so unless I have some appointment that I need to get back for, the cruise control gets set at 50, the arm rests go down and the seat goes back a couple of notches
. You should try it some time Chris instead of chasing your arse all day long.
Job and knock for me.Hence the reason cruise control is set at 56.
I still doubt you on the Volvo mid lift steering.I am almost certain they steered on the ones i used.

Bish bash Zbing bosh
since a steering midlift costs extra on a volvo, you don’t see too many of them. just like you don’t see an actros tag in the uk too often.

i think you will find its the software for the gearbox which is Renault . people have commented before on how much better it performs than the equivalent box in the volvo with their software
Do Volvo do a twin steer on a tractor unit? I know they have hydraulic steered rear tags on some rigid chassis, but never known it on a tractor unit?
The only twin steer Volvo tractor unit I know of is the original F1225 of c.1983 that had a castor steered center axle, but that locked straight ahead at normal road speeds and in reverse and it never lifted either.
It was not a huge success…
We’ve not had a steered second axle since G and R range days and that’s going back a bit now
Here’s some in different colours-
Steve
I’m not sure wether RHD will be the same but the roof bar and step behind the door is so you can check as its being loaded (Tippers) No doubt H&S will require a 3 point harness
Steve
Good pics, cover the bottom half of the pics, particularly the white cabs and it seems the Magnum lives on,interesting!
The ones with the extra bit of trim in the front panel are the flat floor version and LHD only.
Cheers
Steve
Believe it or not (And it is the French) but the look of the Grille is based on the symbol for Pi
Steve
Well I always thought the design for the Magnum came from a coffee percolator which sat on the desk of the design team.Must be an easy job with so much inspiration about.
