lost my job

I think leaving an air freshener, bar of soap and a can of deodorant in the cab for said driver would’ve been better. If the disciplinary route had still been taken, you could’ve said it was yours and thought you’d lost it. I fully sympathise with cab sharing with a smelly female genital area.

Sounds like they wanted you out…but…

you did the dumbest thing possible (apart from hitting the guy) so can’t moan too much…

Get ya feet up instead!

Purely my own personal opinion of course, but sorry to say, if you’re 67, it was time to ■■■■ out in the conservatory with the pipe and slippers 2 years ago.
I’ve worked at a small depot of a large firm where 6 of the 8 drivers are over 60 and because it was such a good number (cracking conditions and wages etc.) 4 of those have no intention of retiring when they reach 65. I’m thinking what chance have the young 'uns got?
As for the state of the cab, grab a gaffer by the scruff of the neck and show him/her, or write it in the defect book/daily check-list, not on it, as a defect if you know what I mean (lack of a clean, hygienic working environment, etc.). Done it before with ■■■ ash everywhere/snotters or boot prints on the inside of the windscreen. Even found a long-forgotten bottle of trucker’s Tizer in one of the cubby-holes once, which the gaffer was chuffed to see plonked on his desk beside a pic of his wife & kids.

Edit: Was on Agency and didn’t give a ■■■■ whether I upset the full-timers or not.

truckyboy:
Yeah thats true, but i need a part time job to keep me sane, and mostly to keep me in the custom that i climatised to, have you seen the price of Champagne lately…ha ha
Im going to my place in BG on the 27th, for a months break, then ill be looking when i get back, Fowler welch are looking for drivers, and seeing that i only want local work, that might do, i have also been offered work by an ex Old School boss, so theres another option, or might just buy a new xf space cab with all the trimmings, and spend my pension pot running it, as they say, iof you want to be a millionaire in transport, start off with 2 million  thanks everyone for all the words of encouragement, and trucky will be a part of trucknet for a long time yet.

Surely your pension pot gives you a good lifestyle over in BG, so why keep returning to Blighty?

As soon as I get the chance, I’m staying over there

Looks like Mr smelly won the day trucky, i remember when on the very rare occasion i got back to the yard at a company i worked for …midweek, so they decide to send my truck on a night trunk…the dirty smelly driver had only had a kip on my bunk with his boots on and…this guy wasnt renowned for his hygene, i just had a quiet word with him , i just told him i was going to his house after i hadnt had a bath for a month use his faciltys and kip in his bed with my boots on…blank face looked back at me…then reminded him its my home for the week…do it again and i wont be so polite.

Deserved the sack, yeah the bloke stinks do it via the official channels. what you did was immature and rude regardless of him … Company did right thing and glad it was upheld!

Yeah, it really takes some balls to leave a note instead of confronting the other driver…
The bloke deserved the sack and hes lucky he didnt get a slap for being such a plonker.

So…

  • Company let you have loads of time of to do your house
  • Company give you a nice little part time job to help supplement your pension
  • Company stand by you up to this event
  • Day driver is full time and works hard for the company and they are obviously happy with his work
  • You leave a cowardly note insulting A DRIVER
  • The driver who read it may not have been the one responsible for the smelly cab
  • You have put the driver and your company in an impossible position.

How is the company supposed to resolve this now? Sack the full time driver because their part time old timer is not happy. Have a sparkling rose smelling truck on standby for you? We have had very hot days, (the guy if it is him) may shower everyday but sweat like a pig strapping, unloading/loading etc. and may work very hard. He might not be able to afford to buy covers and smeelies for the truck and might not see this truck as his own? He may had only had the truck for a week and it came in this condition. He may have been into the office and complained about it himself.

You made so many assumptions and then acted in the most stupid way by insulting the guy and leaving a note rather than having a conversation with him or the office to see if there was a dimplomatic way of resolving the issue. What you did was fired all your weapons and the fact is no one needs you. The company needs that full driver more. :unamused:

Yeah, some good comments, good and bad, its nice that some of you actually live day to day in cabs such as the one i had, so lets light up some points. I had been employed by the company for 7 years, before retirement, they asked if i wanted to stay on, when i agreed, they gave me a contract of employment, so basically i was still an employee, i was still cheaper than an agency driver, and knew the work regime.
The drivers at the company, only worked a 5 day week, but it was a rolling week, which meant that they would get 2 days a week off, and normally the same 2 days every week. Some drivers, had refused to drive that vehicle ( the right way to go ) but i thought i would tell him what his problem was with hygiene. Unfortunately, because of my start times 1400 Mon Wed Fri, i never got to see the driver, but looking through the defect book, let me know who usually drives that particular truck. I knew the driver, as i did most of the regular drivers, all friends to your face, but utter idiots behind your back, but not all, his brother is a very nice guy, hes a trainer also, always stops to chat, whereas the smelly one, has only been driving 5 minutes, was in the office often complaining about other drivers, i might add, not myself, i always kept myself to myself, had a coffee, and mixed with others, no problem, so all in all kept my nose clean,. The transport office was renowned for not doing a great deal with complaints or issues that drivers had, so in effect we didnt have much faith, but that doesnt take away from the facts of what i did. I went for an appeal on Monday, and their concern was the swear word, and where the message was written, stating that vosa would take a dim view of the content, and give the company a bad image, which to me is bull ■■■■, because i would tear off the cover ( saying coffee got spilt on it )they actually asked me what i would have done if a message was left in my truck, all drivers are allocated their own truck, and this driver had driven this one for the past 4 years, but in that time, have never been in it. There are other drivers however who have similar condition trucks, but are normally trampers, so there vehicles are up the road when i work, one is actually called smelly AL, so that tells you. They also stated that the contents of the defect book, are a legal document, and have to be kept for 15 months, and these books could have been passed around the office, allowing the female staff to see the swear word, once again, i envisaged that in reality, the cover could easily have been ripped off, and still contain the defect sheets, to be stored. The transport office, is in the transport yard, and not part of the main building, so the gutless T/M could have handled it differently. But I had the last laugh, because when they sent me my P45, and P60, they also posted the details of another drivers disciplinary action, and his personal details, which broke the rules of the data protection act, it was mentioned in a letter, and this was mentioned at the appeal, whereby it was disclosed that a disciplinary action was taken against him, well he was the Legal Compliance Manager, funny how when i came out of the meeting, he was outside, and blanked me, such a gutless wonder. But i can still hold my head up high, and will get other work, and ignore the morons on this post who think they are whiter than white, but as said earlier by someone else, theyre the ones who go running to the office, believe me you wouldnt do it at this company, although you would fit in perfectly. YES I did deserve the tin tack, i admitted my guilt ( well I actually signed the message to let him know who it was ) unlike others who hide behind a cloak. Ok just a little outline, and for the driver who asked: Yes Jeavon ( ex turners ) is still there, and it was him who sacked me. We never saw eye to eye, he was a clerk 3 yrs ago, now hes general manager, and still on the climb, the T/M, was also a clerk, and because of the low wage being offered for a transport manager, couldnt get one of any calibre, so decided to put a clerk, through the CPC, and unlike me, who earnt the right to be CPC holder, he became a book worm. On many occasions, i have put him right, which he resented, but as a T/M useless, as they say, i`ve forgotten more. Another bugbear was there was no leeway, they had a popints system, you would get 3 points for every infringement, i got one for only taking 29 minutes break instead of 30, no amount of arguing would convince him that VOSA would ignore it, but after 18 points, it was a disciplinary. However i enjoyed the work, which was all fridge work, we were a fruit company, who supplied the major supermarkets, Sainsburys, Waitrose Etc, Fleet change every 5 years, and by the end of this year, will only have XF Daf, and the new Mercedes, i enjoyed the work, but, i slipped up, and paid for my mistake, but glad i did it, not to worry, i will text the driver, just to keep asking him if his hygiene has improved, and whether he has got into the routine of changing his work shirts on a regular basis, ie, more than once a week.

truckyboy:

If I was you I’d let it go and move on, if you want to keep working part time you may want a reference from that company one day.

Just a thought

And leave yourself open to harassment charges?

Why would he want a referance of a ■■■■■■■ ?

shytalk:
Why would he want a referance of a [zb] ?

Same reason he may want a reference off any company I would think.

In our working lives we have all had the good the bad the ugly, some companys i would like to forget…others treated me like a human being. i wouldnt be asking for a referance from a company that i left with ill feeling.

Getting all worked up over the crayford bunch ! Move On, bet they have, you got sacked for being silly that’s that, i wouldn’t dwell On it, it seems you have become a bit mad, texting someone! That ain’t gonna worry him is it? It will just make you look stupid, i am sure you can find somewhere better to work then there anyways.

Nor would I, but you can’t always stop people contacting companies where they know you’ve worked.

I don’t really care if the OP sends abusive text messages out of spite, I wouldn’t that’s all.

Sometimes you’ve just got to grit your teeth and move on

Actually,it has happened to me, I was working via the agency at Enfield M&S I didn’t cause a scene just used as I always carried wipes to clean steering wheel gear stick door handles etc, and a bottle of frebreeze for them incidents … but to go and do that to a driver is disgusting it may of been a medical condition.

I met most women have more balls than you also rather than leave a pathetic note this old pensioner should of been man enough to call him a c u next Tuesday to his face rather than leave it written on a book. as for being a snotty little kid at school you are so wrong … by your spelling seems you spent more time away from school and the kid who stood in corner of playground with no one to play with huh!.

What medical condition can you use to excuse yourself being a smelly [zb]? HR where I work (for about another 2 hours) had to ask this to an employee before telling him to smarten up.
