Lost driving license counterpart

I’ve lost my counterpart, not normally a drama, but i need it in a fortnight. The dvla website says it could take up to 3 weeks to get to me which just aint gonna cut it. Anyone know if there’s a mega quick application process? Can you go to the local dvla office and get it done straight away■■?

This.

My lad had his licence stolen recently and he had the replacement in 4 days. Just phone them up and pay the fee and it will be with you in no time. They just say three weeks to cover their arse.

I renewed my licence with a new photo and it took 4 days from sending it off to getting my new licence.
As you said it is just to cover their arse.

Why do you need it urgently anyways? I have only twice had to part with my licence and that was either when I sent it off for a renewal or when I got done for jumping a red light

Could be he wants to hire a car while on holiday.

It does say that you should allow up-to 21 days for a license before contacting the DVLA but as others have said it’s likely to take much less.

Apparently you can apply for the replacement of a lost license over the phone, see here for details

You can apply by phone if one or both parts of your photocard licence have been lost or stolen and none of your details have changed. DVLA accepts the following credit or debit cards - MasterCard, Visa or Eurocard and the fee is £20.00. The telephone number is 0300 790 6801. Lines are open during the following times:

Driver and Vehicle General lines - Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 7.00 pm; Saturday 8.00 am to 2.00 pm

You won’t be able to apply by phone if you are a paper licence holder or if your photo is due to expire or has expired.

Memo to self: must read threads thoroughly before posting

Thanks people. And yes, it’s because we’re hiring a car in the States! Amazing how things vanish when you move house, lol!

4 days!!!■■?
I sent my licence in for renewal on the 27th June. All was completed properly - medical form filled in etc as my HGV ran out on 23rd July. Rang DVLA on 18th July to see where it was as I was off to Corfu on the 25th and wanted to hire a car. Was told they would send me a letter to cover me in case my licence didn’t turn up and not to worry. The bloke I spoke to said we are very busy at the moment and it can take 3 weeks - he reckons they didn’t get it until 5th July, I sent it recorded delivery and it was there on the 27th June!
I’m back from Corfu now and have no letter and still no licence. I’m due in at work at 6am tomorrow and DVLA don’t open 'til 8 - am I still a HGV driver?

You can only apply from a local office, the licence will still be posted from swansea.
I applied to renew photo licence on a friday 22nd july and both parts apeared sometime the following week (was away). if you are that desparate i am sure you can go to swansea and have it done there and then, but it does cost extra.

I went to America but hired the car from here on the internet, all I had to show was my photo card, they want something that identifies you, there is more information about a person on an electric bill then there is on a counterpart licence. Throughout Europe, the licence is a card with a photo, non of this two part malarkey.

When I got stopped for speeding near Milwaukee, apart from the gun, it was quite straightforward, I showed him my hire car agreement and he looked at my photo, then asked if I was Australian and said “have a nice day!”
