I love these signs at a lot of big places, trying to shame the Chimps in the Workforce to be careful.
We wouldn’t need more than about 3 days worth of numbers at our place, there’s usually an ‘Incident’ every couple of days-
Just this week we’ve had a night driver pull away from the pump with the nozzle still in the tank, spraying the nice shiny tank & catwalk in filthy smelly diesel & even worse, pulling the canopy roof down with it [emoji85].
A Forkie ran somebody over, carrying a high load & driving forwards. One of the lads pulled his Suzies out whilst dropping a trailer [emoji85].
Last night a Forkie had just picked up a pallet on the deck of a wagon & someone else instructed the driver to pull forward, almost pulling the forklift over with it [emoji85].
(The same bloke who instructed the driver to pull forward drops at least one pallet a day, you can almost set your watch by it [emoji85])
I dread the think about Monday morning , I washed my wagon yesterday, filled her up with diesel & adblue then parked her up in the furthest corner I could find, even kinking the tractor away from any possible collisions, finally leaving a Traffic Cone in front to try & protect her from the inevitable damage from the Night Chimp Fairys.
I really can’t see how much longer we can sustain all this damage & downtime, it’s only a matter of time until someone gets seriously hurt or the insurance company say “NO MORE”.
I reckon we must be a Mafia Money Laundering Operation, because there’s no way we seem to be making Legitimate Profits from a normal transport operation.
I was loading out of Encirc glass in Elton the other day. Anybody who knows the place will have seen the signs saying “Zero accidents is our aim”… “Your aim is to achieve it”… “Safety starts here”… Etc etc etc.
Strapping my load up on the bay (no other vehicles waiting), guy comes up to me…
“You nearly done?”
“Shouldn’t be much longer mate.”
“Ok, because all it’s doing now is delaying us.” (Bearing in mind loading had only finished ten minutes ago, and still no trucks waiting for the bay.)
“Obviously I can’t leave the site with 26 tonnes of unstrapped wine pallets.”
“It’s just nobody else puts this much effort in, they just shut the curtains and go.”
“Well that’s up to them. Tell you what, I’ll ratchet these down and pull off the bay and finish what I’m doing out the way somewhere.”
“Ok”
So I pull off and park up in the corner of the yard to secure the last few pallets. Yard guy comes up with his seals… “You haven’t fastened your buckles so I can’t seal you.”
“That’s because I’m still strapping the load.” (Bearing in mind this is only 2-3 minutes after I pulled off the bay)
“Ok, I’ll give you the seals, one on each corner and one on the rear doors please.”
"Thank you "
Typical cover your ■■■ society; we want our site to be accident free but ■■■■■■■■ to anyone once they’re out the gate and not our problem.

These signs are pure quality, should be renamed though, “Number of days since someone tried to win a Darwin”
I once worked on site where a bonfire set fire to the pile of Green waste sat next to the Bagging She’d, which in turn went up. Bloke on the bagger just carried on, “got to me my quota…”
Travis Perkins have a sign that says you need a certification to climb on your trailer, the form book has three copies to be signed off to go to the relevant parties, they also put a big pole in front of your cab windscreen that says STOP Driver, do not move until the Pope has given you ten blessings.
In Romania and Bulgaria you can climb on your corrosive acid tanker wearing cut off jeans for shorts, no hard hat, goggles or gloves, nobody gets killed or maimed for life.
Only the UK has this obscene obsession with silly little rules that must cost millions a year in time wasting.
Most countries use bamboo or wooden poles to support floor levels on building sites.
how many times we have had the money laundering conversation in our place, we are told the depot is performing brilliantly, I reckon I could double that performance with some common sense
Re the signs, they basically translate as “Whatever happens, make sure one person is still working, then we can state no actual site time was lost and it’ll look good when the big bosses come round”.
A good example is one of the steelworks which has some fantastically high number of days since a lost time accident…except I know there have been lots of nasty accidents there (it is a dangerous place), some involving the on-site emergency ambulances, but the number never goes back to zero.

This is the answer when the numpties ask why is the UK not as productive as
a n other country

lol 2 good examples, one probably ‘ironic’ of why working conditions are crap, most countries?use bamboo poles bosses must love you lot,cut corners,‘man up’ then if owt happens do you think you’ll be better thought of/looked after?health n safety, play them at their own game, better still be thankful we’re not still working in times when injury’s at work were far too frequent, but maybe some would prefer that,‘tough guys’
+1,
In the sixties I used to work on building sites and the accident rate was horrendous. It used to be a case of how many minutes since the last accident. While I sometimes think it’s gone to far the other way I wouldn’t want to go back to those days.
