Lorry watchers abused by drivers

In The Commercial Motor it reports Bradford on Avon spotters have been verbaly abused by drivers and their team leader Stephanie Riddout calls the police.Ah diddums.
The spotters should be spending their kids inheritance on cruises and luxury holidays not stood on a 18 ton limit bridge giving Trading Standards number plates that they have no clue if it is legal or illegal to cross the bridge.Anti truck nimbies at their best.Nasty lorry will reduce the artificialy high price of the house they want to sell.Ah diddums.
Bet they all order goods on line and are happy to see a lorry pull up at the door with cheap Far Eastern tat off a container that cost £3 to make and they pay £29.99 thinking it is a bargain.Ah diddums.

Wants a driver of a 17 tonner to grab one of them by the scruff of the neck and shove their face in the weight plate certificate, tell them to ■■■■ off and get a life.

I’m a bus driver.
We get people taking pictures all the time.
Can’t see the problem.
Sometimes they talk to me when i’m on a stand, always found them very polite.

The people writing down numbers and taking pics of the buses are enthusiasts…who like buses (sometimes rather worryingly so).

The people taking pictures/writing down number of trucks in Bradford on Avon don’t like them at all.

But, in fairness, the roads are steep and narrow, the historic bridge is too weak for heavy trucks and the weight limit is well enough signposted for it to be impossible to miss.

Saw the same comment in another thread about weight and now on this one.

What’s this got to do with trading standards?

Trading standards are responsible for enforcing weight limits. Can fine you if they catch you.

It is Trading Standards that send the vehicle number plate details to Dvla in Seansea to get information of the vehicle size then get sent a fine in the post.Twice Stobarts got fined. Its £1000 or more. Some get fined less.
The Lorry Watch team do not need photo evidence.
They can only record the number plate.Log the time and place.Company name. There is a suitable lgv route via Staverton by the old Nestle factory and Cereal partners factory over the river. You come out at the top of B.o.a by the golf course then to the Batheaston bypass for Bath.
A few years ago a man stood in front a moving truck to stop the driver going over the bridge.I thought it was only the police that can do that.

Lorry watcher abused by drivers… I always found the Eddie spotters a very strange bunch of people but never gave them any abuse

They can collect their shopping etc when in Bath or Warminster or some other place nearby.

No need to go near the place really.
