Like many laws there is not always any logic to them. One that comes to mind is the banning of LGV’s and PCV’s from the outside lane of a motorway but no such ban exists on dual carriageways.
Vehicles fitted with a speed limiter and/or towing vehicles are only restricted from the outside lane of a motorway when it is three or more lanes wide.
That is my point, on a three lane dc they can use all three lanes, on a three lane motorway they can’t.
A 3 laned DUAL carrigeway…now thats a cracker!
The word DUAL meaning 2 doesn’t refer to the number of lanes, a dual carriageway can have one, two, three or more lanes in each direction.
A road is a dual carriageway if oncoming traffic is separated by a barrier or verge etc.
See here gov.uk/general-rules-all-dr … 133-to-143
It is a sad reflection on the quality of drivers if they don’t know the correct description of a road.
+1
Made worse by the fact he thought he was taking the ■■■■ out of someone else, but just showed himself to be a moron

Well that worked well.Strange how I usually get no response but as soon as I say something a little controversial you lot get all excited.
What a bunch.
When I return from San Fransisco I will post something that may surprise you all!
How do you work that out? You always get a response because every post you make is always along the same lines i.e going on about driving standards which yes we all agree about sometimes or thinking you’re a smart arse and thinking you’re better than someone else.
You are the first person to jump down someone’s throat and shoot them down in flames giving us your "superior knowledge on driving standards and rules of the road so how’s about you taking it on the chin for once or are you so far up your own arse you refuse to even do that?

It’s not controversial, it’s just wrong. I drive up and down the A2 in Kent three or four times a week, between the end of the M2 and the M25, it’s a dual carriageway with three lanes in both directions.
Lower center of gravity ?

No I very rarely get a response or not one that is worth reading.
Do you really think I do not know about dual carriageways after almost 20 years as a professional instructor?
As I said when I get home I have something to post that might make you understand why I said that.
You really have got me all wrong!
I was speeding down a poorly lit dual carriageway the other week.
Really glad they have these yellow flashing boxes to help you see a bit better.
Californian drivers do not tailgate.
Why do we think that is?

Spoiler alert
Is it a Golden Gate package deal you’re on
From goldengatebridge.org/tolls_traffic/ I understand:
‘… The Bridge is a fixed six-lane roadway, is 1.7 miles long (main span is 4,200 feet long), and carries about 112,000 vehicles per day …’
and must surely be worth a fortnight from anyone’s life

Surprise surprise no response to a legitimate questio n.
Now Mr Grumpy maybe you can understand why I said what I did.
Getting back to DUAL carriageways anybody realise my little trick?

Who was your question aimed at? If it was to me then I don’t know, I’ve never been to America so wouldn’t know what the driving standards are like over there.

Oooh, a quiz
Buzz:
Is it because unlike the UK’s randomly small selection of toothless, minimum wage ‘agencies’ who are seen only when they can afford to pootle about in their low-mileage & tarmac-bound 4 kiss 4’s, Spam plod have teeth, free petrol, shiny badges of authority and guns & Gucci stuff to back it up, thereby ensuring their invariably straight but dull roads are broadly places to respect others. Sir.
A beneficial result for them being that their roads are not overly populated with an aggressive bearpit of tin-sheathed, growling, un-expert, equally unskilled and often over-nannied cowards coagulating the hostile highway-bahn rat-runs such as in the UK - especially during (BBC Radio Sponsored?) ‘Drive Times’ and for whom tailgating is a right
Perhaps?
I’m so intrigued as to where this going , suspense is killing me

Thanks Keith for your opinion although I do not totally agree with you.
Will get back to you all later when I have a bit more time.
Yeah I always thought the term dual carriageway meant what it says, two actual carriageways, one either side of the middle regardless of lanes and motorways are the Gucci version with different regs and signage. Doubting myself now
Don’t doubt yourself Dog (jeez I feel like a black rapper saying that!) you are correct in your assumption.
Not checked back on my humble enquiry in recent days…
Going back to my original point, why is a vehicle that is permitted travel at up to 60mph not allowed to use the outside lane of a three lane motorway whilst one limited by law to 50mph or less is allowed to use all the lanes on a three lane dual carriageway?

So that it can make a right turn if required?
Good point but one I would try and avoid.

Could be at a roundabout or crossroads, not just through a gap in the central reservation.
