Lorry vs. Coach

They both have the same speed limit, 1 @ 56 the other @ 65 its just that the numbers are back to front  they should have had seats that lift up from the floor of a trailer, and be a multi purpose vehicle thereby giving a much better return load, so long as the driver can handle the bell ringing in his ears every 10 minutes. :unamused:

Like many laws there is not always any logic to them. One that comes to mind is the banning of LGV’s and PCV’s from the outside lane of a motorway but no such ban exists on dual carriageways.

Vehicles fitted with a speed limiter and/or towing vehicles are only restricted from the outside lane of a motorway when it is three or more lanes wide.

That is my point, on a three lane dc they can use all three lanes, on a three lane motorway they can’t.

A 3 laned DUAL carrigeway…now thats a cracker!

The word DUAL meaning 2 doesn’t refer to the number of lanes, a dual carriageway can have one, two, three or more lanes in each direction.
A road is a dual carriageway if oncoming traffic is separated by a barrier or verge etc.

Its to do with passenger perception, if the passenger thought they were going to travel on a vehicle that’s slower than a lorry they wouldn’t bother , I’m sure it’s been discussed on here before …

Very true. The safest solutions are not always the most desirable for fare paying passengers. If it was then all seats in Buses, Coaches and Aircraft for passengers would face the rear. Military passenger type aircraft seats usually face the rear but civil passengers would complain.

The only military passenger type aircraft I ever flew on with reverse facing seats was a vc10. Every other flight was forward or sideways(herc)

It’s a myth that speed limiters were introduced for ‘safety’ reasons, although even traffic commissioners believe it.

If you read the legislation you will see that its primary purpose is to reduce pollution and fuel consumption. In fact, UK goods vehicle driver casualties increased slightly after speed limiters became compulsory.

If coaches were slowed down too much then more people would travel by car…increasing fuel consumption and pollution.

It is a sad reflection on the quality of drivers if they don’t know the correct description of a road.

Then we bought American passenger jets with forward facing seats otherwise the yanks would be confused and think they were flying backwards and try to jump out.
